Loneliness, anxiety, depression: for me each has followed an accident in 2013 causing a spinal injury and paralysis below my shoulder blades. Loss of independence is serious for me. Before my accident I was never lonely, anxious or depressed because I could go out and meet people when I wanted. Since 2013 I have never left my home except to go to hospital a few times. I get up, eat and go to bed when my carers come, not when I want to, although of course I am grateful to then and others for making life possible.
But I am not looking for sympathy. I am just saying we should value our health when we have got it and use it to avoid loneliness, anxiety and depression as I used to.
