Loneliness Support Group
Loneliness is an emotional state in which a person experiences a powerful feeling of emptiness and isolation. Loneliness is more than the feeling of wanting company or wanting to do something with another person. Loneliness is a feeling of being cut off, disconnected and alienated from other people. I wonder, about your guy friend, did he believe everything she said and choose her company over yours? I would hope that he would come to you with any concerns he has instead of listening to other peoples' gossip.
It doesn't feel like it now, but things WILL change. I wonder are you open to finding friends without disabilities?
I had a friend in another city I lived in who had a learning disability and never learned to read. She was in her 50's (I think.) She was very insecure and expected people to reject her. Michelle, let me tell you, this friend of mine was an absolute joy. She was sharp as a tack and always spoke her mind. She was also capable of deep compassion and deep wisdom. She quickly became one of my favorite friends to be around. She always got tearful and thanked me for being her friend. She didn't need to thank me! I wasn't doing her any favors! She was a beautiful human being who deserved just as much friendship as anyone else. No one should judge you or her or anyone else for having disabilities. I don't have a disability, officially, but I have difficulty finding people who "get" me. I never went to college. I have trouble with intimacy. It took me a long time to accept that "normal" people could love me, too.
I go back to Cheryl Strayed who asks, not just can you find someone to love you (whether friends or romantic partners,) but also do you love YOURSELF enough to ACCEPT that love? I think that's the big question at the end of the day. I suspect you hold back a lot. You have a lot of great perspectives, and a fun personality, and you hold it back because other people might judge you. Just a guess! Not that it's your fault, but, realize that people can love you exactly how you are. It's hard to find them sometimes, but they're out there.
I'm also 30, turning 31 this year. I moved to a new city and feel very lonely. I hope we can stick it out together <3
