all i would say is to be careful and meet at a busy place etc and get to know the guy first before inviiting back to your place. take care.

In a way, I don't think it's worth the effort because I think a lot of the people that put ads in are desperate for a relationship. And if the person is desperate for a relationship, chances are they will be either a controlling person or desperate within the relationship. Then again, you might get lucky and meet the man of your dreams. And if not, he always has friends. You might match up with one of his friends. But i would be careful. You never really know who is on the other end of the ad.

Of course it's worth it!! Just like in real life there are jerks there, but there are also great people too. Nothing risked, nothing gained.

Hell yes of course its worth it. How else will you meet someone. Just learn how to screen people carefully.

I guess it's the number of guys I have to meet in order to find the right one that's got me down. So much time and effort, I've spent the last 2 years meeting dozens of guys and have had mostly bad times.
I've tried screening intensely and that results in no dates at all. Which I guess I'd now prefer. It's all to tiring for so little reward. I don't want to meet another disappointment. I'm done.

It could possibly be worth it. You never know where you'll find the right person for you. But as others have said, be really careful. I met my ex wife online and she was the most wonderful woman I've ever been with and I could say she was kinda desperate at that time. She was caring, honest,learned and genuine.

I have an ad that this lady responded to me when I wrote her on my birthday nov 2nd she wrote today....she told me where she works and said she works tonight to come by and see her...

Ok I decided not to because she works in a bar and in a bad location only later did I take a look again at her profile and find out she is a stripper at that bar...no wonder I liked her...LOL but I did not go...have no intentions of going mostly because it is a bad place for the alcoholic in me to go to find a woman....

her profile seems so sweet...until the very end when she reveals she is a stripper...she said she wants someone who wants her heart and soul....I did reply to her before seeing that she strips...I said I would not be putting my best foot forward to meet her at the bar because I did not drink...and she is working....little did I know what type of work...I also later replied again about getting coffee before she goes to work sometime...also before seeing the stripper notes in her profile...

now what? I guess I am thrilled and excited and cautious....I do not want to be hurt but would love to see her sexually too...but I ain't going to that part of Illinois ever for a woman...it is really rough there I mean really ruff....bad bad bad...she is in danger over there but her profession always is in danger....

There's always a risk when meeting someone online. Personally, I would never do it. My boyfriend's brother met his ex-girlfriend on an online dating site. That relationship was a roller coaster ride for him. To put it mildly, that girl was a definite psycho! She put him through 5 months of hell and still continues to pester him from time to time. Just continue to screen people and, if you find one that you really like, plan to meet him at McDonalds or a coffee shop or somewhere like that.

It depends. If you're a woman, you will have a much better chance, since dating sites/personals are geared towards women. A woman can post a profile/ad, and get numerous responses. But if you're a guy, it"s completely different: a guy can post a profile/ad and get VERY few, if any, responses(trust me, I know).

In the last seven years, I've been on numerous free(I would never pay for a dating site) sites, and have had absolutely no luck at all. 99.9% of the women[on those sites] are so delusional and unrealistic, it's pathetic; all they want to do is waste your time, and very few of them are actually serious about finding someone(regardless of what they may say in their profile).

i know what u mean about the effort. i have so many health, emotiona and financial issues that i am afraid to even try. and i met my last partner online and it was the biggest mistake of my life. but thats just what happened to me. i know others who have had great success and are still with those same people. yes it took time and there were lots of disappointments but they finally found the right person for them. finding the right person is worth the time and effort. hope u find him. kim
