I wasn't sure if I should post this here because it is not a topic on loneliness exactly though it is a recurring theme.
I'm 27 years old now and have been through a lot , to say the least. I have had mental health issues my whole life just as a start. At 20 I attempted suicide and consequently had to drop out of college because i was in a coma for 2 weeks and then subsequent rehab for a month. After that I got a great job and started college again somewhere else where I then drank for 2 years straight..my GPA remained high ( 3.8) but two years in and i hadn't been able to complete as many courses as I should have .I then had MASSIVE panic attacks , no doubt caused by alcohol , and had to drop out of that as well because of serious social anxiety as I could not leave my apartment most days. This last college was a great community college in California. Due to these horrible panic attacks I returned to live with my parents and continued doing online courses...but online courses are over and now I am enrolled at one of the best ranked university's in the world. I hope i don't f@#k this one up.
All of the people i thought were friends never talk to me and since I've dropped out so many times it was hard to keep connections. I now live in an online world because my latest degree is online and so is my part time job. This causes a deep sense of isolation.
I still struggle with alcohol ( through less than before) and still take medications as i have for the last 9 years.
I just want to be normal..I don't want my history to plague me anymore. I want to have a normal job, enjoy the pleasures that normal people do and have high hopes. I keep telling myself " How could you destroy so many good opportunities over the last 7-8 years?" " What the hell happened to me?"
I come from a good upper middle class family , I've had supportive parents both financially and emotionally speaking, I went to good schools as a teenager, I am out going , good looking and one thing i know for sure ..one of the best human beings you ll ever meet...I feel others pain and I listen. i am giving and love being able to help someone out ....why did my life go so wrong...now i try to pick up the pieces.
I just want to be happy..something I thought would come naturally but now i realize that even being happy takes hard work.
Never thought my life would have turned out this way at 18 - 19 ..
What lead me down this path...and why do I feel a nostalgia for better days..I want to be the best i can be...but where to from here..??
Only god knows
Thank you for reading .

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

anyway go to school and enjoy your youth....you have the world by the tail!
You have the opportunity to start over with your life but that is not going to happen until you let go of your guilt, your regrets, and your anger. I wrote a poem years ago and I would like to share it with you. Maybe it will help a little bit. In the meantime, please have faith in yourself, believe in yourself, and know that it is never too late to start over. Hugs GB
The Biggest Obstacle to Progress is Getting Started>.....
Free at last to be myself
to finally jump down from the shelf
and ride the currents of the sea
the waves of opportunity
No one to tell me "No you wont'"
It's my decision if I do or I don't.
The only things that might upset my cart
is if no-one tells me where to start.
God Bless GB
Alcohol is a depressant so it is not good on it's own. But add it to some medications and it can cause serious side effects. And it appears you have some mental health problems too.
It's time to stop beating yourself up and reaching out for help. Years back in my early 50's I had terrible agoraphobia and social anxiety and was stuttering due to significant trauma I experienced. But my insurance carrier would only allow a psychiatrist to prescribe meds ( not the primary care doctor) but the psychiatrist couldn't do therapy so I saw the psychiatrist for an anti-depressant and he was trying to use a medication to relax the jaw for the stuttering; and then for therapy I had to see a therapist because my insurance carrier would only allow a therapist to do therapy.
The workbook the therapist used was "THE ANXIETY & PHOBIE WORKBOOK" by Edmund J. Bourne, Ph.D." and it can be gotten in any library and ordered online at Walmart and other places. At the end it has "Additionial Hieerarchies" which is actually exposure therapies for you to do on your own and is very useful.
But nothing happens if you don't get out there and get help I lived alone and I knew I couldn't remain as I was. It took about 2 years, but I worked out of it all and you at 27 have so much more time left in your life than I had in my 50's. So don't put it off any longer .
