I tried, and failed, today to shave; just gave up a few minutes ago; so, after a week of not shaving, to the grocery store and library later today. Not as though any stranger is gonna treat me any better, or worse, if I shave or don't.
Same with going to doctor tomorrow, in my $15, falling apart, walmart shoes I'm also wearing today. I did get a clean shirt out of the $5 plastic box I keep my clothes in, and days ago ran the shirt under the shower to get the deep wrinkles out. I gave up on cheap irons, and I cant see buying some more expensive one.
I have plastic utentsils for food, and two $20 walmart saucer chairs for living room furniture; not as though any visitors to impress.
I have also reached the point when, inevitably, I go to the dentist for my god-awful teeth, to admit they are that way cause of my hillbilly parents, though he probably knows as much from lots of similar patients.
My nice-enough landlord has recently rented out to some bad news, so I'm less concerned of my behavior / opinions around my landlord.
There are certainly people on this site with anxiety about how they look and behave around friends, neighbors, fellow workers, which to a certain extent, just might be a good thing.

I once walked from one town to another, along the rr tracks, coming to the trestle in my hometown, with me in a pinstripe shirt, though wearing blue jeans, with a woman hanging out at the rr trestle asking if I was going to church---cause of my pinstripe shirt!

my sociopathic (according to her Colorado sister, after we broke up), girlfriend/whatever she was and me were in a bar in my hometown in the 1990s, listening to the rolling stones' "symphony for the devil" and jimmy buffet's "cheeseburger in paradise' songs we put on the juke box----afterwards, one of the local welfare moms told the bartender, "you can turn it up now", to some '80s mtv hair band (cherry pie by warrant?), with a redneck idiot young man, seated at the door, saying to us, as we left, "don't come back"

I'm a Rolling Stones...Rock and Roll...kind of girl...but I like classical and new age music too....But I do like Lady GaGa and Pitbull kind of music, as well.

I've read about the duck dynasty controversy, but I don't have a tv to watch it; my hometown walmart has lots of their stuff for sale.
I've downloaded amazon music I hope to be upbeat, even decades old stuff: "get happy" by judy garland!, "aint we got fun"--peggy lee version of 1920s? song. dick van dyke: put on a happy face.....stuff I wouldn't have listened to in my 20s.
i've also downloaded subliminal 60 minutes of whatever brainwashing stuff from amazon; 99 cents for subliminal recordings to get over depression/etc.
I have some one dollar walmart dvds from years ago, along with a couple walmart boxes that held the dvds that were for sale for a dollar each.
"the magic sword" one dollar walmart dvd, among my favorites.
I wont go into detail about all the walmart plastic bags (needed for used catlitter) I grab from empty cashier aisles as I leave the store, though I'm probably notorious for it.
not wanting to see a new liver spot, from being sensitive to sun cause of my blood pressure pills, is a good excuse for me not wanting to shave;)
I hate the idea, too, of becoming an elderly person who misses some spots while shaving; I've noticed that on some older men. and, of course, shaving my...EARS! ;)
Growing up being the poorest family in the neighborhood, though extremely rough, also taught me not to care about material things. If someone's judging you by what type of furniture you have in your home, they probably aren't worth having around anyway. As long as you're not sitting on milk crates and sleeping on a bed made of dirt and moss, I don't see where anyone would care if your furniture is from walmart or not.
Also, solitude can be a good thing if you're feeling overly pressured by society. Live your life the way that makes you comfortable. As long as you're not hurting yourself or others, you're doing it right.

sorry to hear about your poor upbringing; our house, with its rotted wood siding, was the worst looking in my hometown. After surviving that as a school kid, being poor on my own is, maybe, too much of a breeze for me...until some $ emergency hits.
