curr-hrist, 5 minute talk with walmart cashier around 8 this morning, with me even joking at end "you can be my therapist"
this to be the longest conversation i'll have with anybody for the rest of the month!
me going on and on, though at least about my hometown of the 1960s, with her even joining in of nostalgia, with story of how she went to see an elvis movie in town, with so many girls screaming that the manager stopped the movie and said that if they didn't stop screaming, they wouldn't show the elvis movie.
"if only I had somebody to talk to..." said to representative from mental ward in 2011, when I went to e.r. for something to calm me down, when my cat was sick back then.
"you're such a f#%k up" I said # times out loud as I biked home from walmart, though at least that is better than the "I just wanna die" from 5 years ago.
at home to spread some fish oil pills on my cat. and later to a store in town, to get over "talkin stupid" at walmart.

Can you identify these rom-coms from just a screenshot from the middle of the films? This is a multiple choice quiz so even if you're not entirely sure you can always take a guess and at least have a 25% chance of getting it right anyway, so why not have a go?! https://www.buzzfeed.com/alysaurus688/rom-com-screenshot-trivia-quiz

You took the step to get out of the house...you made the effort to engage in conversation...now don't be self defeating about it. Next time in the store...go through her line and be friendly and polite. If she is friendly back well maybe after a few conversations you may want to ask her to go for a coffee when she is done working. Be positive.
Making friends means making an effort
but I think she's married, and if I'm not notorious at walmart for being the nutty old guy on a bike, I'm definitely notorious for grabbing plastic bags at empty aisles on way out;) One cashier, early last year, even double-bagged my few things, with me giving good excuse of being 2 miles out of town and worried of ripped bags, with she even saying, "I know."
I will probably wind up boring some other cashier somewhere, sometime in the future, if given the chance;)
the nice cashier did give me the strangest look when I said how I saw, online, old concert tickets, that you could see the beatles live, in early 1960s, for FIVE DOLLARS---that is what really seems weird today, with $100 tickets for such lesser musicians.
for good or bad, I do feel there is a difference between the "real" world and the internet, especially when I probably nervously talk in public, and can even race in and out of a grocery store ("speedy gonzalez" a grocery store cashier joked to me; a librarian also joked of "a man with a mission", of me knowing what book I wanted, and leaving the library fast).
Whatever voice that people hear in their head, while reading my posts....just like I'll associate your avatar with how you look in "real" life with your posts;)
Maybe practice in the mirror telling a funny story...rehearse it in your head. I do that when I have to speak to someone who may make me nervous.
I also have moments that I feel I said something dumb. But you know what I have been on this planet long enough not to give a hoot if someone does not like what I have said. I paid my dues in life and feel I deserve respect.. If someone thinks I am a silly old lady...so what...I just think...just wait your day will come.
and thanks, again Blondie61
We - you and I - do lots of dumb things every day or two, but we also do especially right on things. Face it! lol
p.s.
Stealing extra bags; My mom's done that as far back as I can remember, and I do it sometimes still too. They make good waste basket liners :D
I think this was a nice time for you and you should be happy to chat....I don't care if they are married when I talk to them....I am not trying to get them into my sexlife I am just making small talk....
well, the woman was reading the local paper before I went to her checkout, so I certainly interrupted that.;)
tehdreamer,
I'm glad I'm not alone in grabbing plastic bags---I deliberately didn't grab any after talking to her.
Billwfriend,
walmart cashiers do seem to be friendlier than others; I couldn't even get a "hi" from the cashier/manager at the 5&10 that was opposite my apt---though that woman did get arrested 2? years ago from stealing a couple thousand dollars from the store.
Next time you get a chance you might do what I'm resolving to do with my better-aquaintances: say "I appreciate your sharing a few words with me/friendship [whatever], I'm a hermit & nobody in my neighborhood...."
It sounds like you are making good, healthy to interact with people and your situation jus' plain has slim pickins.
c ya' :)
