Hello. I have just joined. I live alone, and suffer with anxiety and depression. I lost most of my friends years ago because the depression I had was so bad. My family was abusive and were all alcholics. I have been struggling with painful memories and feelings of worthlessness. I have a few friends, but I can not talk to them. I feel so alone, because I feel that the real me is not who they really want to know. My best friend is very emotionally repressed, and can be sympathetic but I feel that the real me is like a ghost to him, and he can not feel on a deep level. I wish that I could really talk to him but I just cannot. I am so lonely for the conversations I know I cannot have with him. I feel like the real me is burried and I am so tired of one level of being and relating. I long for deeper emotional and spiritual conversations. Meeting people is hard because how do you move beyond small talk, and most people I have
met don't really want to, but then I have known a lot of unhealthy people, and am trying to break the cycle.
I was wondering what other people's experiences of lonliness is and how do you cope with it? I pray, play music, cry, go for a walk, but sometimes it just hits me and I feel anxious and a bit half mad with it.
Thanks
Ellowyne.

If you only know one thing about me, it should be _____________________.

Thank you for replying and empathising. I am shy too.
It helps doing those things too, but some days it just feels too painful.
I suppose those are the days that I just have to tell myselt this will pass and hang on. Good for you that you are still trying to make new friends. If they are not friendly back then maybe they are not the right friends for you.
I'm sure you will find someone to talk about your deep feelings, earlier today I felt like I was in the bottom of a well and after writing my feelings here... I feel better somehow. Hope this helps and I'm not sure if I can give you deep answers but I can listen.
I admire your determination. I can't imagine how hard it must have been and still must be to stay sober for so long.
I am sorry that the people at AA do not reach out to you and your friend. I am sure you would make a great sponser.
I like to read too, and listen to music. Though the depression makes it hard for me to read at the moment because it has been so deep. I have found healing through writing poetry, but I have to be in a certain mood to write it. I understand the desire to be in your own world, and know that it is hard to go beyond the small talk with most people.
Thanks for the reasurance and encouragement. I am pleased that you are feeling better and found the help needed. That can be a struggle.
I love emotional honesty and openess which is so hard to find, and helps me not to feel so alone. I can listen too if you need a friend.
Thanks for the welcome and empathy. I appreciate it.
Hugs back. :-)
I am sorry you feel the way you do. I isolated myself because of the bad depression, and the friends I had were not interested in the real me and did not stay. I have been a loner all my life . It started with my terrible childhood, and parents who were abusive and never interested. I got used to it but it still hurts and seems to be hurting more now. I used to be sociable but I always felt so lonely inside and that the me I was being was in part me but not the true deeply hurting me, I felt too embarrassed to show them. I think I knew that they would not be able to cope or relate to that me.
I think the issue is deeper too and hate the insane shallow lonely world the media and society creates where you can never say what you are really feeling because shallow people would be embarrassed.
I am sorry you have this lonliness. I have felt distant too, which hurts.
Sometimes the loniiness almost feels like a physical pain. I understand so well the getting used to being alone and having moments of preferring it. Not weird at all, understandable. I have felt the same sometimes, but deep down I was still suffering.
I was sociable and outgoing too for a while until I got really ill with depression, and the friends drifted away. Suppose a part of me was enjoying herself while the deeper me in need of true friends was desparate for emotional honesty. I do think that it is complex and deeper too. Thanks for your 2 cents. I appreciated it.
You have my full support, my thoughts, my prayers, and my friendship. I wish you nothing but the best in life. If you need anyone to talk to about anything, I'm a mouse click away. May you recover from all of your pain and experience true longlasting happiness.
Thank you for the the empathy and such caring support. I greatly appreciate it. You have my full support, prayers, and my friendship too. I am sorry that you are going through such a painful time.
Thank you for offering to talk. I feel the same and am here for you if you need to talk. It helps knowing and connecting with people who understand. I will pray for you and be thinking of you. May you too find peace and healing from all your pain, and feel strengthend, uplifted and loved.
