Don't give up yet.. You can read my previous posts but my husband was diagnosed in Oct 2009, started Nexavar in January and is still taking it. When he first started he was not eligible for a liver transplant due to too many tumors in his liver but as of Sept 2010 the Dr said he is eligible for a transplant. We are waiting to go to Kansas City right now. Hopefully he'll get it before Christmas. So, think positive , don't give up.. Anything is possible.

When I was diagnosed in Feb. with an HCC tumor and early Cirrhosis from the Hep C I have had for many years, I was placed on the transplant list right away. While waiting for the transplant, My tumor was shrunk twice by chemoembolization, because no part of my liver could be removed. I was also put on Nexavar . I have heard about and read good reports about the effectiveness of Nexavar. It's a target treatment just for liver cancer and renal cancer. My encologist had to reduce my dosage a couple of times, then finally take me off because of the side effects. But some people don't have as much trouble as I did from the side effects. In a week, I had a red rash on my face that looked like a bad sunburn, and started losing hair, but I was willing to deal with that. Then I started having very sudden attacks of diareah (I never spell that right). But the reason I had to stop was that in a month, my feet got suddenly so sore, calloused, and painful, that I couldn't even walk across my living room. Nexavar affects your skin and hair mostly. There ARE people who have been taking it a long time, and their cancer has stopped spreading, so I feel you just have to give it a chance. I was on the transplant list only 3 months when I got "the call" that they had a liver for me. That was a little over 4 months ago. I'll be praying for you, and please stay in touch.

I had Stage 4 Liver Cancer in June 2008. The AFP Cancer marker was at 32,000 that rose to 55,000 in 3 weeks. I was given only 7 to 30 days at most to live. Today, after 2 and a half years I'm Cancer free with no tumors or any signs of cancer. I started a proven nutrition supplement that has been around for 23 years now, before taking Nexavar for my liver cancer. The cancer stopped growing and I had no side effects from the chemo. I never lost weight, had energy and got to walk my daughter down the aisle on May 28, 2010 two years later. Results were not overnight so Never Give Up..........

I am not trying to give any advise here, I'm just not familiar with how one can join this discussion group. My story is extremely similar to Darryl's except that I am female.

I've had liver resection for two tumours last April. Then, I went in for my semi-annual Ultra Sound and although it's not confirmed yet, all my Drs etc. really do believe I have another tumour that has just reared it's ugly head.

When I research liver cancer, it is not very promising for a long life. However, I fought through 2 treatments for the HepC and no longer have that. I am prepared to fight the cancer as much as I can. Yet, there are days that I just can't shake off the bad thoughts.

The worst thing that happened through my past illnesses and now this new worry is, my husband of 21 yrs decided that he just couldn't stick though anymore of my health problems. That happened finally in June and I'm just about over my intense resentment that he could do such a thing.

I will make two years in may, still strong, fishing kayaking boating several days a wekk. I take a nap in the afternoon and go to bed early also take a lot of supplements. There are only a few like us that had no hep c and clean livers so no one can really say how long. The longest I am aware of is 5 years but who knows this treatment is still very new.

As you can see from just a few of the responses here. IMHO If your one of the lucky ones who's liver and body does well with the drug you can do very very well. The liver is one of the few organs that can be directory treated and affected by things we eat. Juicing, milk thistle herbs etc. can give you a great combo outcome. IMHO.

followup....on mother's day it will be 2 years since my surgery and I am still here, boating, fishing,kayaking,riding my mortercycle every day is an adventure...attitude matters

Hi, my elder brother 56 has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 HCC. He has just been administered with TARE and he is feeling OK. He has been completely asymptomatic so far. The doctors have given a very poor prognosis despite TARE and Sorafineb that shall be started a month later. Can someone suggest what should be done besides what we have been advised?
