Liver Cancer Support Group
Hepatic tumors are tumors or growths on or in the liver. These growths can be benign or malignant (cancerous). They may be discovered on medical imaging (even for a different reason than the cancer itself), or may present in patients as an abdominal mass, hepatomegaly, abdominal pain, jaundice, or some other liver dysfunction.
At 94 she had colon cancer and had surgery to remove a 4" tumor. It was successful but now she has been diagnosed with liver cancer. Nothing is being done to lick the cancer but Hospice has her in their care. I have been with her trying to help while the aides are not with her but its taking a huge toll on me.
I have been prepared for various signs indicating that the liver is failing. I see a few of them but not sure. The Hospice nurses do not seem alarmed at this point.
She had had another blockage but her Hospice nurses have managed to free it. Her stool seems to be a yellowish green gold color. The palms of her hands are very red. At times the soles of her feet as very red. While she is sleeping she gets dark coloring on her face but on waking that goes away. Her stomach area is large from swelling in the liver. She only eats a teaspoon or two a day but she does drink 3 cans of Ensure.
I feel in limbo, not knowing what to expect. Is she starting the dieing process or does she have a few months or weeks left. Any experience with this will be appreciated. I know only God knows the answers for sure but sometimes experience gives a good indication of what to expect.

Today the Hospice nurse told me mom has about a month or less. Moms skin has not turned yellow or the whites of her eyes, however her bowels are a yellow gold and very loose. Her stomach is enlarged but without pain. Hospice has kept her on Tramadol, the meds she was taking before Hospice. It seems to be holding her pain. They have put her on Haladol, just like your husband. Mom is not be irritable but extremely anxious over everyting. Haladol seems to be a miracle drug for her. She has calmed. Today they also put her on oxygen when needed. Her breathing is a little labored when she walks so I have it for her when needed.
I am not sure exactly what I am looking for in this discussion group. Perhaps it's just knowing I am not alone in this. I've been a member of other groups on DS and found a tremdous amout of support.
It's awful knowing a loved one is about to pass. It's just so final. Mom is 99 years old and all things considering she has done extremely well. I am so thankful that she does not have the pain that many cancers cause. I just hope that lasts. The Hospice team told me they can control the pain though if she should get it.
