A group for all those who are living a sober life and want to discuss how it is for you today - months, years into sober living. The focus is not on how you got sober, it's how you see and appreciate your life today and how your relationships with people and life itself may have changed.

Hi everyone! I'm new to this club but glad someone invited me. I hope that I can be a help or maybe I will get some help. I was recently in a bad car accident due to my drinking and plan to try and live a sober lifestyle from here on out.

Hello Brooklyn, so glad to have you with us. I can only share my own experience so I would hope I can be of some help to you. I am glad you survived your accident (of course) and perhaps now you are ready to start your best life. I am sure rooting for you. Are you going to or planning to go to AA? Welcome Brooklynn - glad you survived that accident. Many of us don't. Or kill someone. And I say that as an ex-chronic drinker and driver.

What are you doing to stay stopped?

For one I don't plan on hanging out with the same friends I used to, as we would usually get together at the bar. Also, I plan on attending AA, that is if I can get an occupational license to get there. Right now I cannot drive anyway because I have a neck brace, but I was also charged with a DUI so my license will be suspended for a while. Another thing I plan to do is find some new hobbies. I really don't have anything besides work and school. Maybe I will start playing my guitar since right now it sits in my closet collecting dust.

Get a ride to a meeting and get numbers, lots of numbers! when I got sober I didn't have a car and got to meetings 1 to 4 times a day! Hobbies are good but reading is also good! go to AA website and get some reading materials,then read it! Gotta be serious about it and GET TO MEETINGS!

Welcome from me too, Brooklyn, glad to hear you will be going to AA, there you will meet people who will be able to give you one-to-one help and support. It's a strong network worldwide and it will help fill that antsy time when newly sober. I used to go to a lot of daytime meetings and people would often invite me for a coffee after the meeting. They gave me a lot of hope at first and then, when I got a personal helper (sponsor) and went through the 12 Step programme I got to a place where I did not want or obsess about alcohol anymore.
