Life After Divorce Support Group
This community is dedicated to starting over after a divorce. With the marriage over, how do individuals begin a new chapter in their lives and what hurdles do they face? Divorce is often one of the most traumatic periods in a person's life. Studies show it is the second-most stressful event in life, after the death of a spouse.

So it's been 3 years since the divorce and 4 years separated. It was a very hard divorce but we have since become friends because we have to keep it calm and okay for the sake of our child. The thing is within 6 months I recently reconnected with an old friend from high school. We had a one day physical thing but nothing serious and we were friends through school. He's now married with 3 children. The thing is we began contacting each other pretty regularly (texts, phone calls, fb messages) There was some really inappropriate talk sexual in nature and a lot of sharing intimate things with each other. I began to fall for him not just because of that but him as a person. We have since stopped all inappropriateness and maintained a friendship. The thing is his wife found out we were talking, it caused a huge trust thing in their relationship (for obvious reasons). Now I feel really bad about the whole thing. I know that if I was his wife I would feel terribly betrayed if I knew the whole truth. I'm really thinking about cutting off even the friendship because we have crossed that boundary and it has caused problems in his marriage. Plus I'm afraid that if I continue talking with him that I will fall deeper in love with him with no real future. I don't really believe in affairs and it really sucks that I let this get this far. It also sucks that this is my first experience since the divorce with a man. I guess it doesn't help also that I'm disabled and am home a lot alone to think about it. I really just want to move on from this and find relationships with men who are unattached. So I want some feedback on this. I really believe I'm doing the right thing.

You're doing the right thing by ending the relationship and friendship. There is nothing more dangerous than a "friendship" with someone of the opposite sex who is married. Been on both sides of this coin and nothing good comes of it.

i will second the comment of WearyOne. No "friendship". Three of those "friendships" contributed to the end of my marraige because he just wouldn't let go.

Definitely end that friendship/relationship. Nothing good will come out of that.

Ditto--end the friendship. Nothing good can come from it.

I agree; end the friendship especially if you have stronger feelings and have crossed boundaries.

I got a message via fb from him last night and have not responded. I will not respond and I believe he is hanging on because he believes I will always be there and if his marriage doesn't work out he can come to me. I am no one's sloppy seconds and I believe that even though the feelings are still there on my end that I deserve better and deserve someone who will give all of themselves to me and not string me along. So as tempting as it is to respond I won't.

please do end it because nothing good can or will come of it. it was a fb friendship that turned into texts, phone calls etc that I found out about with a "friend" from the past that let to our trust issues and eventually I kicked him out and we are now in the middle of our divorce. my kids no longer have a father who is around but for three hours on Sunday. look for someone who isn't attached already unless you wouldn't mind the same being done to you. and realistically...if he would do this with his wife and you IF you were with him what makes you think he wouldn't do the same...trust me he will....I too have been on both sides of that coin and my stbx did the same thing he did to me to his first wife....

cut it off. the relationship has no honor, no dignity. My X and his live in little gf both were married when they began their affair. I will never trust him again over ANY issue, ever. He showed me no respect after over 25 years. don't get in anyone's way, ever...
