Liars Anonymous Community Group
A support group to provide those with a compulsive addiction to lie a place to share hope, strength and courage with others like them; solve our common problem and help others with a compulsion to lie. We aren't alone!
i am part of god. i do not serve that knowledge by lying. it makes me feel bad.
neither do i serve it, for the moment, dwelling on the guilt of past lies, and harm.
first, i give all of that over to my higher power...Panentheos. you don't have to share mine. what i call it isn't important.
the 3rd step is actually, "made a decision to turn our life and our will over to the care of god as we understood him."
the "...as we understood him" part is important to me. real gods don't live in churches. at least, not only there. i don't have to believe in the god of my childhood, the incomprehensible, latin-speaking, ritualistic catholic god. i can have faith in a god that i am a part of, as a cell is part of the body it forms a part of.
i can't end this thing myself. i turn my guilt, my fear, and my lying over to my higher power. when it is time to begin my inventory, when it is time to build again on the ruins of the recovered liar that is me, my higher power will let me know. i trust. i have faith.
i have to.
all praise due.
ashadu.
thy will be done.
anyway, lster, i've gotten some good out of reading the 3rd chapter of the AA book "12 Steps and Twelve Traditions" every night before bed...give it a shot, see if it works for you. there's also a 3rd step prayer in (i think) chapter 5 of the big book of AA.
i love you, brother/sister.
i'm pulling for you.
god bless you
After years of being resistant I started to have remorses when I lie. It's awesome!
As for God - from all of Your descriptions I can agree with one (catholic) and partially agree with another one (incomprehensible). Church and God aren't the same instances. Many people (including many priests) make such mistake. God speaks all languages (through priests and christians, by the way His Son used Hebrew ;) ) and uses universal language of art, beauty, silence, love, mercy and miracles (like the miracle of life). As for rituals - not many of the rituals were given by God Himself (10 commandments) nor His Son Jesus (the Pater Noster prayer - sorry, don't know proper english name for it, the Sacrify). Most of other rituals were created by humans.
In a polish movie "An angel in Cracow" there is a beautiful scene when a child is asking an angel "Which prayer The God likes the most?". "Each one" replies the angel.
Don't worry, I'm not just repeating someones definition. It took me some 5 or 6 years to understand the God, His mystery.
As I said - each of us can have his/her high power different from the others. I don't care.
BTW have You read Paulo Coehlo?
I'll go through the AA book and give a special note to the part You've mentioned.
Hugs. And a prayer (I hope You'll let me pray to my God for Your happiness and strength for You just like I do agree that You pray to Your god for me?)
i have tried some Paolo Coelho...The Alchemist. haven't finished it yet.
Pater Noster = Our Father
here it is in English:
our father, who art in heaven
hallowed be thy name.
thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
on Earth as it is in heaven
give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us
and lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
for Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever,
amen.
have you had any luck keeping a journal of lies?
i tell far fewer lies these days, but i still tell some, and here's what i was thinking:
i cold control my lies better if i knew why i tell them, and when i'm at risk.
plus, i think it's true everyone lies...it's just inevitable, because The Truth is a huge concept that doesn't fit easily into a limited human brain. so, instead of taking a puritanical vow to never, ever, lie again, maybe i should take care not to lie from fear first, and see if that doesn't help me progress toward honest, one small step at a time.
what do you think? have you tried the journal technique?
much love, lster.
Anyway - no I didn't run a journal of my lies, however it also seems - I lie much less than I used to, but still I do some time. First - I've stopped most fo those "small lies". But still I am not strong enough with more important tasks. Journal seems like an interesting thing, I have to consider it.
As for Coehlo - there is one of his books I really admire - it is The Devil and miss Prym. I read most of his books and find this one the best I think.
I also thought over the way I put the step three here. And I feel I actually SHOULD put the proper, full version first and only then give it my explanation for the way I understand that. Now I wish I could make this small correction (not for me, buth all the others that will come here in the future - for me it changes nothing) but it seems impossible.
Hugs.
I seems simple enough - those moments when I am open and listening- I belive this can and does happen. Things change during the day or night. Fear creeps in for me... old ID and EGO struggles send me away or even keep the higher power out of the process. My daily stuggle to stay open and present is my biggest issue.
I am going to read step three and I will try the lying journal...
Peace
