Hello - my name is Matt and I am a compulsive liar. Today is April 1st, 2017.
I was was under the impression that I was doing much better when it came to lying to my wife.
We have been separated now for almost 5 months. And it's really starting to tear me up.
She has told me that she cannot and will not live with a liar. I am going to therapy to help me change this defect in my character. There are times when I am powerless to lying. I lie when I don't want to make my wife angry - or it feels as if I am trying to protect her. Lying has also made my life in unmanageable. I really , really do want to quit.
Like I said - I was under the impression that I was doing really well. But it turns out that I have been lying to my wife for the past couple of weeks.
We we have been going bed shopping. We have finally picked one out and even ordered a new bed.
Well - while I am living at my parents house - they got a new bed too. And a couple weeks ago - they moved their old bed downstairs to the room that I am staying in. It's a tempurpedic with an adjustable base. And it's one that my wife really liked as we were looking as beds for us.
Since I have been sleeping on this bed - I didn't tell my wife about it. Not when it first happened and not once while we were looking at beds. Needless to say she was pretty upset tonight.
And I really can't blame her. The hardest thing about this whole situation is that I have been trying my hardest to be as open and honest with her as I possibly can. And was doing really welll with it.
But just like the idiot that I am - we take many steps forward in the direction that we want to go - and I go and mess it all up and bring us right back to the starting point. To start everything all over again.
I want to stop. I know that this is going to be something that I am going to have to fight with for the rest of my life. It's a fight that I know that I am willing take on everyday for the rest of my life. And I am doing this for myself so that I can be the man that I want to be.
Because she deserves it - just like I do.
And I do that. I get confortable and go back to my old ways.
I can't do that anymore - that's why I will be keeping my resolution to stop lying in the very front of my mind.
