Self Deception

I believe that we, as liars, do more lying to ourselves than our wives or husbands.  If it has been your habit for so long, it is no longer a habit but who you are.  It also destroys the trust others have in you to the point there may be no hope.  I am committed to honesty in my thoughts as well as my words, but I know it will take weeks for the new habit to become a part of me.  I know that I will struggle, but I will never give up.

Your point on lying to ourselves is a good one. I did not realize this until after discusions with my wife (who has turned out to be my best counselor). The lying to myself was the start of lying to others, and getting that under control was a large step in getting the other control.

I agree. I'm in the process of siphoning my true personality from one's I've created. I am trying to determine the values I hold that are true and not something I attributed to myself in an act of protection or fear.

Change and growth are painful. To make a muscle bigger, it must lift heavier and heavier loads and adapt. It's not easy and not immediate. Daily work with small incremental gains compound. It can't be seen or measured over days. Measured over months and years we can see the changes that have taken place. I believe I will get better if I put in the work and have faith in recovery. The decision to stop lying has left a void inside me. I choose to fill it with growth and love.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this community. I am using as one of the many pillars to my recovery.
