I’ve been doing pretty well, not lying the last two weeks. Then today, I was talking to one of my colleagues from work. I told her about a meeting I was in. I completely made up the dialogue and I relayed it to her like it was real. It was only later today before I go to bed that I realized I had lied about it. That I had extended the story and made things up. It’s quite scary to me that I would lie to her and at the time not even think of it as a lie. I need to constantly be thinking about being honest. Day by day. Thanks for listening folks. I’m glad I’m a part of this group.

Thanks for sharing. Went through that same situation yesterday. It was ugly and my wife and I had a fight and we were both stressed out. We are better now, but we decided not to rehash on the stresses for the betterment of our health. Keep sharing!

It is easy when you are in the thick of it to to let them slip out without thinking about it, it's good that you have recognized it. Now just like you said think of everything you say and make sure it's true before it slips out of your lips. Good luck

I totally agree with gwilly. In the past, I have often got caught up in the moment and have lied without realising it. Sometimes I would realise it later, but sometimes not at all. I am doing this much less now but I need to always keep uppermost in my mind my desire not to lie/embellish etc. I need to always remember to give myself a moment (or two) before speaking and, in that moment, I remind myself that I don't want to lie. And remember to give yourself a pat on the back when you manage to get it right.

Pausing before blurting out to embellish - thanks for that suggestion. I can see how that would help.

I’ve also started carrying a marble sized blue bead in my pocket. Looks a bit like the world from space. I think of it as “true blue”. It’s a physical reminder for me to not lie. It’s a little thing, but it helps me stay on track.
