Hi guys, I need some help to turn my lying tendencies around. I have a girlfriend who I love dearly and my feelings have never been stronger for her, but my actions are very contradictory to that. I tell little lies, here and there, to avoid confrontations with her. We have talked about this many times before, and I have been caught in several lies, all of which serve to destroy her trust in me. I really want to be honest with her, and I realize in hindsight that honest is the best policy, and that it will BUILD trust, not break it...but it's hard. Right now, our relationship of 2 years is on the rocks because of my recent lying. I really hope there are a few active members out there that I can talk to (we can talk to each other) to find some support.

I feel your pain. Let's talk about it we are in the same place and I feel we can feed off each other for strength and guidance

All I can say, is that you are just beginning the long road I am currently on. My little "white" lies have almost, if not, destroyed it. If you love her... you HAVE to change. You have to face your fears of the potential consequences of telling the truth.. They are much less severe than if you lie, no matter what the lie is.

Just after posting my intro above, I read this and felt complete empathy toward what is going on with you. Why is just telling truth, even little truth, so difficult? I have a similar issue, and my relationship is in jeopardy, as well. I think the biggest motivator, at least for me, is fear. I don't know why the truth is so scary, but dealing with the aftermath of a lie is worse. Why I don't see that at the time of the lie, I don't know. I feel your pain and confusion.
