I was wondering for a long time - what about practical jokes. Of course I was thinking about it due to the 1 April Fool's Day.
To make a joke on my Wife I did lie once on that day - about whether. Of course confessed almost at once. But I'm thinking about it all the time - are we allowed for such jokes where we have to lie actually? Can we do such surprises?
Right now my answer is - no. Like an alcoholic or a gambler - it might turn us back into the habit. And there is nothing that can work as an explanation for a lie. A lie is a lie and we can always avoid it. Sometimes just refusing the answer, sometimes giving up a joke. Just like drinking alcohol - it is nice (when controlled), but it is easier to control when one don't drink at all. There are other joys.
I was also thinking about other habits - like shopping. But again - a person who is addicted to shopping just has to buy something sometimes. That's why despite his/her habit he/she has to do it sometimes. As I said - there is no reason that forces us to lie. So as I said before - answer is no.
I know - it might be tough, we may find it sometimes annoying. I I think it is the safest way. And most fair. And, after all, there are also practical jokes that doesn't require to lie (I've got one on my account this year too :-) ).

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
But I kinda agree. I have this sense of humor that is very wry and a bit subversive. That my friend will take some effort to change. Aong with my lying - it is a refuge of sorts for me in most situations.
I do sometimes feel like that style of humor is not always good. It can be a bit close to being i'm not sure what a bully? Not really.... I thinking here. Thanks for the food of mind and soul

But as soon as the lie comes up - here I sense a problem. On the one hand - it's "only" a joke, and the victim will soon find it out. So there is no spiral of lies that is so hard to leave later. On the other - a lie is a lie. No matter what is the reason for it. So I strongly believe there is no other choice, but avoiding this kind of jokes. Pity - one can do many funny things. But hey - we've got to "tickle our brain" and think of something more interesting, less expectable and thus - more funny :-)
