I have lied to my wife for so long and for so many horrible things, and I never once stopped to realize the gravity of the consequences with continuing to lie and then her finding out about my lying. For starters I have lost her trust and become almost completely unreliable. She is in pain 24/7, at work, school and even more pain with me at home. Our marriage is standing so close to the edge of falling apart, a single puff of wind will bring it crashing down. I can see how much I depress her and see the pain in her eyes. And to top it all off my wife has friends trying to set her up with someone else, someone who has a chance to not lie to her, even though we are still married.
the consequences of lying do not stop at hurt feelings, they destroy long term relationships. Lies degrade not just ourselves but the poeple who we tell our lies to. They believe there is something wrong with themselves and feel stupid for ever believing any thing we say. In addition to helping ourselves to stop lying, remember that even though there will be pain for telling the truth, the pain from lying cuts much deeper.
