Has everyone noticed the relatively new links I've posted in the upper right hand corner of the page? If not, please check them out, especially the 1st one for the link to the List of different 12 step groups and their descriptions.

I think that this group is an amazing support network. But lying may be only 1 symptom of other issues we have in life and attending a 12 step group in your area can be even better because there is no person to person interaction substitution. And it's so important to breaking our isolation. But keep coming back to this group too cause we need all of you!

Yes, I agree that our compulsion to tell lies very often is to hide from other issues which we are unwilling to face in our lives. In our efforts to stop lying, we are going to have to confront those issues if we want ot truly change our lives around. By embracing honest, we are recognizing that all our other flaws will be exposed and require our attention. This site has been of tremendous help in many ways. I experienced the power of talking to one of our group members yesterday. We had corresponded via the site, and then exchanged thoughts on our personal e-mails. This culminated in our lengthy phone conversation. The feelings, thoughts and emotions which this triggered was powerful for both of us. I had not anticipated this one-on-one communication, but our guiding power brought the two of us together for a reason, Both our lives needed the support of the other, and we were put in contact for this.

ultimately, i found participation in twelve step groups counterproductive, in that i was pretending to be what the group is dedicated to, and then trying to work in my own issues. Al-Anon, CoDA, and others might work better than AA and NA, but i'd like to know what your experiences have been.

i knew someone who claimed to have dealt with this problem by confessing, in increasingly smaller intervals between the lie and the confession, until eventually, the lie was more of a joke: "...and then i joined Nasa! that never happened."

when i met this person, though, she seemed to have a kind of harsh mirror honest, an elbows-in-a-basketball-game kind of honesty, and it was the beginning of me coming here, and to other groups. resenting someone else's judgement, i think, is a familiar theme to any 12-step group.

anyway, i'd like to do more person to person interaction on this issue, but making do with other groups hasn't worked for me so far. can you suggest anything?
