Liars Anonymous Community Group
A support group to provide those with a compulsive addiction to lie a place to share hope, strength and courage with others like them; solve our common problem and help others with a compulsion to lie. We aren't alone!
Anyone know of a program that doesn't involve believing in some kind of divine being(s)?
These 12 steps have saved millions of lives and been the road map to recovery for same ...

I personally considered myself atheist before I began attending Al-Anon, and about a year in the program, after opening my mind, came to believe in a higher power that is mostly nature based as I am a huge outdoor person.
I personally believe that perhaps there are some people out there that can get by alone on will, but I think that most of us end up here in Liar's Anonymous because we have tried EVERYTHING we can think of or have access to to try and stop lying, obviously with no success. I believe that in this instance when there is nothing else to try then we must be able to admit that we are not in control of this part of our lives and that there is some other force out there beyond our own ego and pride that can help us. Again, this is my own belief.
I wish and encourage any of you who investigate a non-spiritual and non-religious program who have good experiences to please share those experiences with others on this board. Thanks!

Here is a secular interpretation of the 12 Step model put forth by the Elizabeth Fry Society of Saskatchewan.
1. Admit that we have a problem and recognize that our social environment contributes to our problem.
2. Recognize that help is available and that there other ways of coping.
3. Become willing to change and ask for help in healing our minds and bodies.
4. Look at both our healthy and unhealthy behaviours and coping skills.
5. Break our silence and share our lives, our pain and joy with others.
6. Become teachable. Be willing to learn healthy attitudes and behaviours to replace our unhealthy attitudes and behaviours.
7. Stop blaming ourselves and others.
8. Become aware of and accept responsibility for the harm we have caused ourselves and others, while recognizing that we do not need to accept responsibility for those who harmed us.
9. Do what we can, without harming ourselves or others, to repair these damages and not repeat the unhealthy behaviour.
10. Take responsibility for our daily behaviour, while recognizing both our healthy and unhealthy behaviours.
11. Develop our inner wisdom and strength.
12. As a result of continuing healing and growth, we will live happier, healthier lives; learning to love and accept ourselves as we are; sharing our lives with others.
These steps offer parallel interpretations, or guidelines to the traditional model of the 12 Step program. Whichever model you follow, you will have a proven path to help you recover from our behaviour of living through lying. Hope this does help some of you out there who are looking for a 'non-religious' model.

and downloaded a whole lot of worksheets. Since I cannot find a support group, other than this website, I have decided that in order to start staying honest, I will work through various worksheets (like the Big book, or the 40 day program). I also am going to start to keep a diary on my laptop as I work through the reasons why I have become such a liar. I downloaded a free diary at:
http://www.top4download.com/free-diary/
My husband is willing to help me through this process and the rest of my family and he will try their best to keep me honest.
I am optimistic about this because I want to become an honest person, I want to live a good and healthy life with relationships to people to whom I can be honest to. I have so many good, loving people in my life and I have continued to sabotage my relationships to them because of my lying and secretive behavior. I am glad to have founf you guys. It feels good to read about how you are doing and what you are going through. It is good to know that I am not the only one who has this desease and is suffering because of it. Not that I wish this to other people.
However for now, for me, I think this version will help me get started.
Thanks
