Chick-Fil-A CEO Dan Cathy has made several comments saying that he is against same-sex marriage, and has also donated millions of dollars to anti-gay organizations. On Wednesday, August 1, Chick-Fil-A supporters formed long lines to show their loyalty to the brand by buying their chicken. Two days later (August 3) the Human Rights Campaign is sponsoring an LGBT "kiss-in" at Chick-Fil-A restaurants across the country.
I personally believe that marriage has no place in politics. I'm a Republican and quite obviously pro-gay since I'm a lesbian. Being Catholic, I believe God loves all, even those of us who are LGBT! It doesn't matter what your religion is or what political party you belong to, happiness is something that everyone deserves. Chick-Fil-A should be focusing on customer satisfaction instead of stirring up trouble in social circles. I also believe that anyone should be able to practice any religion or join any political party regardless of their sexuality. I totally understand freedom of speech, but, honestly, how liberating is it when someone else gets hurt in the process?
People do not choose to be gay. However, tolerance is up to them. Why is someone's happiness up for discussion? It shouldn't be. People don't harm other people by their marriage and relationship choices. People harm each other with hateful words and actions. Is a chicken sandwich worth someone's happiness, health, and fulfillment?
Since this issue seems to be heating up as the summer goes on I decided to make this post. What are everyone's thoughts and feelings about Chick-Fil-A?

I think the CEO should keep the comments to himself. Just because you have a right to free speech, doesn't make everything that comes out of your mouth right. I support chic fil a because I know they hire good people and don't discriminate against lgbt even if the CEO doesn't support gay marriage. I prioritize. A company over one man's antics.

Well, I think both of your points are valid but I can't say I share either of one them, however, I find them most intriguing. I can't say that either point is invalid but placed in the context of my own happiness, I find them irrelevant. Here is an example to illustrate said point: I spent years in the "underground scene". A scene that promoted diversity but at the same time "fought the system" to those who were standing on its edges looking in. Having spent a good number of years within it, I can honestly say we don't “fight the system” but merely ignore it. This lack of attention creates a place for us to find a sense of belong and purpose. We are, in a sense, standing on our own, a splinter cell of society. It's not that were fighting at all, instead, letting the world turn while we embrace what believe to true in terms of: fashion, ideology and love. I've saw a broad spectrum of humanity during those years and I can't say I passed judgment on any single one facet. This concept of passive ideology wraps back around to my main belief put concisely, I don’t have a personal stake in ideas that I find would affect my own sense of happiness. The reason I created this space parallels my alternative years and need to find a space that I/we can exist in which, makes us content.

William, you make a VERY good point. When we are true to ourselves, we will be less likely to get this kind of negative press get to our us.

Business. Politics. Gender Identity. I defy anybody to show me a common denominator that makes any reasonable sense. All of this hinges on media generated hysteria and emotion. And those who will not take charge of their emotions will be controlled by those who will use their emotions against them.

The CHICK Fil A restaurant wants to have the best of both worlds. In the meantime you get told that you are not somebody that is approved of by somebody in their management. It is hypocritical. Going to your news paper with your story may heat things up a bit more. On the other hand, even though journalists are suppossed to be unbiased readers may have opinions that they'd express on your story in the newspapers comments section. And the newspaper may rig that in their favor by putting in more of one side than the other choosing to avoid equal representation from both sides of the restaurant debate. Either way the restaurant does not want to seem to want to lose the benifits of one of their two pies. And the restaurant is the real problem. Maybe you can let us know what has happenned since August 01. I'd be interested to know. You can PM me if you want to.
