I raised this question up in a different forum years ago as many found my "choice" in partnership quite odd. First and most important, it was not a dating site! I'm simply was looking for friends, (at the time who were in contradiction to my own sexual preference). When it asked for filtering criteria I selected "lesbian" and when it asked my preference I of course selected "gay man". Within an hour I received somewhat sarcastic comments such as: how do you think that's going to work?! In a somewhat clever retort I responded: "that's the beauty of it, it doesn't work!". This response, of course, led to much more confusion. This very idea of confusion seaways into my next segment, which is that of partners, more specifically, people who we feel close to than friends but concurrently have no romantic interest in. Partners, (for sake of this debate) is simply defined as: non-platonic friendships, which, grow into love/respect of another. The facet I found most interesting is responders assumed that I was looking for romantic interest, of course, I wasn't.
Now, that I have developed a bit of context for the question, the debate may now pursue: Why would a lesbian/gay partnership been so odd? With the fusion of proper personalities and with the ambiguity of sexual interest non-existent, I'd imagine it to be a very fulfilling relationship. I have not found many articles talking about this seemingly rare combination but I'd like people's thoughts on it...

I personally don't have a problem with gays and lesbians being friends. I have several gay friends myself, two of whom have been extremely helpful in the coming-out process. I think people are hesitant about this kind of friendship because they are used to hearing "partnership" in a romantic connotation instead of in terms of friendships. When I read this post, I thought of two friends being partnered up on a school project. Their partnership helps them complete the project. Why can't a gay man and a lesbian do the same thing, except with, well, life? The best thing to do is to take the stigmas where they come from: people who have not been blessed with such an important relationship. The LGBT community is not just about romance. Sure, sexual orientation is the driving force behind it, but it's a great way to find friends and connect with peers in general. This gay-lesbian partnership, or an alliance, per se, is beneficial to both members because they can offer each other moral support. It's like having someone who knows exactly what you are going through, who really understands you, just without the romantic interest you mention. One person isn't using the other, it's just an alternative way of sharing ideas. Remember, two people may not have the same gender, but they can have the same mindset. All it takes is some commitment and open-mindedness.

Two souls might make a match regardless of the body gender. It takes real outside the box relating to get this one working, but why not? it is all life and living, and free people get to do the choosing. Be free!!! choose to be happy. If lesbian/gay relationship is what switches on the loving, then let it be!!!!!

I dont see a problem with lesbians being friends with gays. I have several gay friends whom I love dearly. I would never sleep with them that would be just gross. But I love them sooo much.

In North America we live in a society that tends to belittle singleness. So since singleness is the end result of a GAY man and a GAY woman people will find that odd and even offbeat. There are even Born Again Christians who think marraige is the goal for relationships. Obviously they forget that their "Savior was single according to their version of His life. When I was a Born Again Christian in practice I obviously felt at ease with a female homosexual as that took away from the sexualk temptation factor. I'm NO longer a Born Again Christian. Just citing past experience of mine. But anybody looking for platonical friendshiup is offbeat in this society of ours.

I have a fresher view on this topic. A gay man with a gay woman is like a relationship between two men who are hetrosexual or two women who are hetrosexual. These can become meaningful friendships but would not lead into sexuality. Everybody is centerred on love it seems today but friendship is no longer worth anything. I've decided to try to find friends instead of love relationships that would involve sex. The latter has proven to be complicated for me and occasionally traumatic. My quest for a "loving" relationship which would have included sex was based on not having recieved appropriate love growing up for reasons best left ignored for the purpose of this post. It is sufficient to state that not having recieved this love I needed from my parents growing up I was into seeking "loving, sexual" relationships later on in my adult years. I'm now convinced that this was due to a major void due to my lack of love growing up compounded by the anti celibate rhetoric surrounding me in society. Today I want to blossom, accomplish good things and in other ways develope so that I'll have a stronger inner security and not need to be in a loving relationship, which in reality is not loving because the other person is there to fill that void that is within me. That is not the role of the other person I'd be in a loving relationship with. So by all means, in my situation, having female GAY friends and others who are hetrosexual would work for me as long as they are appropriate people to have as friends of a platonic nature. But Love relationships involving sex? As long as I'm logical I am not sure about the timing as a result of sufferring from codependancy as a result of the lack of love I got from my family and other abusive experiences I went through growing up. So for me , being friends with female gay persons would work and could become very rewarding. There would never be sex however. That is something to look for later on as I work on blossoming as a person by accomplishing things to help others, etcetra. This is a fresher take due to elements of personal growth attained in my life thus far.
