LESBIANS OVER 50 Community Group
I've created this group to promote a safe space and an opportunity for older lesbians to dialogue about and share their special issues, needs, concerns, or whatever they wish to share with the other members. Women only (please!) from all ages are welcome.
have accepted my daughter. That is not at issue. Here is my problem/fear: I recently looked her up on Facebook and saw that she has publicly posted her entire wedding, real names, real address, real work location and I believe this is dangerous.
There are still homophobic people out there and there and I fear that this will come back and hurt her. First, because someone might hurt her (hate crime) as she is in a small town and very easy to find as a result of the Public nature of facebook. Not for friends .. but for any and all to see.
Second, I worry that this will affect her future jobs ... rather, that she will be discriminated against. I know there are laws against discrimination, but there have always been laws and people who have violated those laws and gotten around them using different reasons.
She is a very intelligent person and I feel that what she did was not smart at all. She could have, at least, had the photos available to "friends only".
A safeguard ... though ... not a perfect one.
No, I will not go to myy daughter on this issue as she is a full adult .. way past her teens and she made this decisioin. I do think that, if you can put aside the "gay thing", it was unfair of her to expose all parents in this also as they are all accepting but may worry about their jobs and their lives.
I hope someone can answer me without seeing me as homophobic. It is primarily her safety and, secondarily, a lack of thinking about others (the parents and how their jobs might be affected).

Personally, I would choose to have a heart-to-heart with my daughter, strictly for the reasons you've stated, to help her to understand that it's a cruel world out there still and she could be setting herself up for a lot of heartache and grief.
