I've created this group to promote a safe space and an opportunity for older lesbians to dialogue about and share their special issues, needs, concerns, or whatever they wish to share with the other members. Women only (please!) from all ages are welcome.

Yes, both my user name and my condition. Im over 50, in a very sensitive position where I could lose my job, and I'm tired of living lie this. Ive come out to one person, but I know there are others who ¨suspect"me, but don't ask, because of my sensitive position. How do I meet someone when this is the situation?

Hi! What state are you in? I understand your problem. My last job I was in a managerial position, had been for several years. We got a new district manager who called himself a born again Christian, he made my life hell after he found out that I was a lesbian. I took it for almost 2 years but the stress was killing me. I ended up quitting because he made it very clear that I was going, one way or the other. I went a year unemployed, went through all my savings finally found a job but not making anywhere near what I was making. The kicker is the company that I work for doesn't have a policy against gay people but my immediate supervisor is a pastor and real big on practicing his sermons on me, not in a mean way, just sorta practicing. He doesn't know about me OR that I'm a Pagan and I don't dare tell him. I have a good working relationship with him but keep my private life, private from him.
I can't tell you how to meet someone because I CAN'T meet anyone. My partner of 10 years died 4 years ago this month. Just really hard to meet other older lesbians around here. I'm out to everyone else but my work. There are no laws in NC to protect me unfortunately, at least not yet. Hoping for a change!
I might not be able to offer a solution but I can definitely commiserate with you if you'd like!!! :)

I'm not really out yet either because the people that love me may not accept this sort of "news"; they are the Congregation at church. They are the basis of my social life and I'm just not willing to take any chances.
Fortunately.....I'm Canadian and same-sex marriages are legal in all of our Provinces. Health Benefits and Pensions are there for same sex partners as well.
That sounds great but lots of people my age are old-fashioned and think that being gay is some how a choice.I do attend a church on alternate Sundays that is a cornerstone of the LGBT Community and also a support group on alternate Wed but the girls in the Support Group are younger than I am by many years and they are in the midst of the bar and dating scene....neither of which appeal to me. I have one openly gay personal acquaintance but she is a writer and activist and a bit overextended...not much free time. So, basically....I'm on my own except for this Board. Glad to see a new members.
