In any event, your negativity to men makes me sad, but I can't blame you if you've had a bad experience, or have just not met very good men in your life. My only suggestion is to take a better look at the men close to you (ie: father? friend's husband? any of them) because often men do things that make them look like assholes when they actually mean well.
This seems really strange, a lesbian sticking up for strait men. But I have brothers, and cousins and friends who are the sweetest men in the world. None of them would ever lift a finger to anyone, and in my cousin's case, he's almost too sweet and thats why he can't find a girlfriend!
I desperatly wish you could meet the men in my life because then you might not feel the same way about them. Keep in mind that media and tv likes to delve deep into the subject of rapists and child molesters but for the most part, average joe is more harmless then a butch lesbian.
And on one last note, i just wanted to say how much I apreciate you posting this because you are admitting and asking for help about negative streotypes. If more strait people did that about homosexuals this world would be a lot more tolerant and understanding place- so thank you.
I've met men who were ultra sweet and considerate, who were very much there for their significant others. I've met others who wouldn't have a clue how to be relied on.
The thing that I find so different between men and women is their ability to engage their feelings. Men tend to be action driven rather than emotionally driven. They tend to be exclusively intellectual rather than emotional. And that causes problems because the feelings are there, they just can't understand or correctly identify them.
That isn't to say that ALL men are like that. I know a few women like that, too...lol
Be careful in stereo-typing men (they must be molesting their children). My ex-husband would NEVER do such a thing to a child. He is extremely pacifistic, except when it comes to people who harm children (or women for that matter). I know for a fact that my brothers (as clueless as they are) would never harm anyone.
Not all men are bad, just as not all women are good (and I don't mean just the straight ones).
Human beings are infinitely capable of diversity and ability to reach beyond themselves. I"ve met some good people that seek to become better within themselves...and a few of them are men.
my grandfathers I hardly knew.. I did love one dearly but never saw him after the age of seven.
my father physically abused and abandoned me
my brother physically abused me daily.
my uncle never gave me the time of day and is a drunk..
I had a really good friend who said he was different than other men but in the end abandoned me.
I have one friend who has a husband and I like him but always question if he has or would hurt his girls...
I haven't evre had a purely positive man in my life. I try not to be so negative towards men but it is hard. My g/f adores her father and I can't for the life of me understand why.
We talk about him alot she is trying to explain to me why he is a good man.. maybe it's not meant for me to see..
I have straight & gay male friends that I Love 2 death. And I have a lot of male family members, including my brother, that are great guys, they'r all on my mother's side. Now I could never stand my dad & have never gotten along w/him, nor his nasty brothers, or any of my stupid male OR female cousins on his side of the family. They are all A$$holes. The women r jus as bad as the men in that family. The way ppl act has alot 2 do w/the way they were raised. But, it's not jus men, women can b useless pieces of crap too.
I have learned however to base my opinion on any individual, by how they treat people. I know guys that everyone says how great they are and would do anything for anyone, but it has always been my opinion that you never really know someone till you live with them.
Well that's my 2 cents....keep the change :)
don't judge on the gender, race, sexuality etc... but rather on the person. I think more people need to learn that lesson :)
