I was 37 and I fell for an openly gay woman. I couldn't believe the depth of the emotional connection. I had never had anything like that with men. It was shocking and slightly concerning, too.
I had no idea that I was like that. Months rolled by, and it became deeper and stronger. It was like discovering a whole new world. I fell in love, and did not want to live without her.
I questioned it...but it came down to this: Over whatever arguments I made, my heart could not imagine life without her ever again.
Thankfully, she felt the same way, and we are together 4 years later.

but really, i figured out my sexuality the same way.
i always dated guys...but i found myself staring at women, feeling nervous and awkward at sleepovers, getting butterflies when my girlfriends would hold my hand at concerts and shows. and then last year, i got into a relationship with a 23 year old gay woman and all of the sudden all of the pieces fit perfectly. at first i was like you are, attracted physically to men but emotionally to women. but as i became more open and honest with myself and the people around me i became less and less attracted to men and et became more and more obvious that i am , in fact, gay.
i questioned myself, i ran away from it, i avoided the woman i was with for almost five months but i couldnt go back to men...and now, here i am.
dont fight the feelings, you cant control your heart or your body's reaction to women.
unlike the previous comment, my gf did not get our happy ending. she passed away about three months again, two weeks after i came out as a full and true lesbian...but all that matters is that if it wasnt for her i wouldnt know myself today... :)
dont worry about being nervous, that will pass as you become more comfortable and as your discovering what you really want.
best of luck stef, just remember; were all here for you!
I too can relate to being very aware of my reactions to the women in my life. When I was a school child I developed crushes on the girls....even if they were crushing on the guys. lol......As I reached my teens and started to form my own opinions of love, I knew I was going to be taking a different path than the one my family had intended for me. It happens.
I would also like to add that you do have the right to choose who you tell or do not tell about your feelings for another woman. After all this is all about you and your life and right to love who you love.
I have told my siblings, some coworkers and some great friends...these are the people who are loving and supportive in my life. The others in my family do not need to know. I do accept their difference of opinions and respect that limit.
I do wish you all the best and hope you are better able to embrace all of the many facets of being a woman who loves women. Congrats and welcome to another side of You!
Although things didn't work out with that colleague of mine, I am currently in a r/s with a woman and we just celebrated our 3rd year together.
It felt so right. Emotional connection and being sexually compatible is very important to me.
If it feels right, then I guess it is ok. Nature take its course.
Just to let you know that I had more trouble with it, than evidently anyone else did. lol.... Even a woman I hadn't seen in close to fifteen years (who is a friend of my sister-in-law) responded with "and this surprises me how?".
I had never felt a true connection with men. But hey, most straight married women are as baffled as anyone. I often tell people that lesbians aren't man-haters...they are confusing us with straight married women.
God bless you all!
