Hey, so...I am concerned (and scared) that I have (or have the beginnings of) erotomania. I have a huge crush on this one actress, and I sort of obsessively watch her work and daydream about her. I create plots where she likes me in my daydreams.
I do know, however, that she doesn't know me, doesn't love me, doesn't know that I exist. And I know that if I did anything to contact her, it would be out of place and weird. Plus I am shy and freaked out about anyone I have a crush on. Either way, I'm still really scared that I have erotomania. And this is so incredibly emberassing and humiliating that I do this. I feel like I am hurting this person just by daydreaming that she likes (loves) me.
It is also creating a horrible, unatanable standard for possible girlfriends, and I hate that. I really want to let this go, but don't know how. And I really want to love someone real. I have never dated or anything, and now I'm scared that I won't, or that, if I do, I won't be happy because nothing could measure up to "her." What can I do? Does anyone else have any experience similar?

again, this is normal human nature, but when it interferes with your life, then you should do something about it. see someone. talk it out here on ds.
when i was 17, i had a HUGE crush on kristy mcnichol. i was totally obsessed and convinced we were going to be together forever. my best friend and i called 411 in hollywood for hours trying to find her...it was hilarious, and normal.
