Trust and communication are the absolute essentials to building and keeping a long term relationship. Once the trust is broken, for me personally, it cannot be fixed. I was just handed the "this is what happens when you blindly trust someone, your life gets fucked over" handbook. It's not a pretty thing lol. I have also been in a very LTR in the past (14 years) where the trust was broken 7 years into it and although I tried like hell to keep it going, it just didn't. I wasted (as did she) 7 years of trying to fix something that was beyond repair.
I am also going to respond here to your post about being able to be with someone you don't like (I hope that's ok). I think you have to like someone before you love them. Like is hugely important. Once the love gets out of the "butterflies" and "heart pounding" phases, there has to be something there that will feed the relationship. Not that the love dies, it doesn't, but love is just not enough to keep a relationship afloat. If you don't like someone, it just stands to reason that the love will all but die and one will be left in a very lonely and regretful place.
I'm just full of good cheer today....LOL!
I do wish all the best for you {{{{{hugs}}}}}
If it had just been a sexual affair or a one time deal i might have been able to forgive her. However, with everything that she has said and done in the last 2 months i know that i could never be with her again. Honestly if it weren't for our daughter i would never have anything to do with her again. Trust is essential in a relationship. Without it i don't think there is anything to build on.
Trust and respect go hand in hand. If someone breaches the trust you have placed in them, then they also have shown you that they have no respect for you or your relationship. And why would anyone stay with someone who has demonstrated by their behavior that they do not respect you?
I am divorcing after close to 20 years because my partner shattered the trust I placed in her, emotionally abandoned our relationship, broke her vows and apparently has no remorse over doing so. I wouldn't trust her to tell me the correct time, let alone trust her with my heart again.
