Hi All, I received a text from a friend who was clearly devastated when she found an open email that her partner sent to a penpal that she befriended several months ago according to my friend. She texted me or rather copied and pasted the email in the form of a text to me. I read the email which was lengthy and so far I didn't read anything that was alarming until I got to this paragraph which by the way did not flow with the email it sort of looked like her partner was in a thought and threw it out there and then continued on with the email that flowed with the spirit of the email minus the short paragraph. Here's what it said: "Girl, I wish my relationship were different. I wish I had that in love and romantic feeling. I wish I were more attracted to her physically so that making love would just come naturally. We do get along which is great and I feel I can trust her."
Now my friend was so upset by this she couldn't even talk to me she had to text me and then attach it for me to read. I texted her back to see if she was alright and she said she needed to talk to me after she has had some time to process it. She wants my real thoughts on it.
Here's why she is so upset. She has told me that the sexual nature of the relationship is almost non-existent because her partner always says that she has a low sex drive and it isn't her. She says her partner always tries to reassure her that she loves her and is attracted to her but due to her past abuse history it's hard when it comes to sex.
After reading it I wished my dear sensitive friend had taken the high road and not read the email that was left open on the desktop!
I feel for her and I don't know what I am going to tell her because I know how I feel about it but I don't want to hurt her with my true thoughts! Tell me what you all think about what her partner disclosed and how you all would approach it with your friend who is looking for advice.

@hopeful 42, I agree I did tell her this and she knows. I am concerned about her though because she has been through a lot and now this. I am here for her no matter what, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't reading more into it when she sent it to me before responding to her. We did talk and she is feeling a bit better because her intentions are to work things out with this woman. I did suggest to her to please be careful. I truly believe the saying, "when ppl show you who they are believe them" I will add to that when a person speaks something to a total stranger regarding their feelings believe that too. So I am hoping that she takes care of and put herself first!

i think that of all the things that could happen in a relationship the very worst for me would be dishonesty. in a lot of cases things can be worked out, renewed in ways with some work...but when someone lies about their true feelings that really puts a wedge in the relationship. if it were me reading that email and read that part it would be very hard for me to recover from that. there is always that possibility that they can get past this... but it will require your friend approaching the subject with her, to have that very hard but open and truly honest conversation about the issues they have in their relationship. there are no painless detours in this situation.. no magic solutions.... direct, honest and open communication will be the only way they can determine where they stand with each other.

@chicadee I wholeheartedly agree with what you said. I am just glad that she trusted me enough to call on me. I don't want to ever give her wrong information. I have just mainly been practicing active listening and quietly supporting those that I care about through difficult life challenges. I have my own dramas that I am working on so I am no expert. I do think however, that communication between two people in a relationship must be active and honest on both parts in order for it to work.
