I guess I am really just venting, although it could be more. In my adult life, I've always been able to hide my LD- get by some how. I am very disarming, so when I make mistakes people generally don't get angry. But how long is that going to carry me? I feel like I'm living a lie, waiting to be found out at any moment. My memory is terrible- I forget tasks I'm doing in the middle of doing them. I don't make connections. Like today I got in trouble because I didn't sign someone up for a class which I knew she would be coming for, but I didn't make the connection that because she told me she was coming then I should sign up. I would have made the connection if she has actually said, "I want to register for the class." I misunderstand what my director wants, or hear half of what she's saying because my auditory skills suck, so she is always correcting my work. That sort of thing. I know I get anxious easily and get flustered, and anxiety plays a large part in my mistakes, but a lot of it is just my LD. And I'm not sure if there is that much that can be done with it. That is the worst part.
So today, being a very bad day, and a few glasses of wine in me, I am thinking, can I really go on this way? Maybe a career is too much for me. Maybe I need to get a more menial job like I've always had. But I can't live off of a menial job. Not in NY. I should join a commune and live off the of the land. Or join the Peace Corp for the rest of my life. But my husband will have none of those.ideas. Maybe I am just panicking. I don't know. I'm tired of struggling.
Ok. Enough self-pity. I need to pick myself up. Tomorrow is another day and maybe it will be better.

I was never DX'd or labeled LD but I know I have them. I think to some extent everyone in my family does because we all suffered brain injuries due to a car accident. I have two brothers that are smart as whips academically but dumb as boxes of rocks when figuring out their lives. So LD's effect people differently- my son is very challenged cognitively--his effects him academically and in daily life. As you know I worry about his adult life and how it will be for him. I hope he turns out like you--able to function in life and have a loving wife and an overall good life. You are a trooper, you work hard, you try hard to do your best--so please do me a favor and STOP BEING SO HARD ON YOURSELF. Admit to your mistakes and try not to repeat them. That's all you can do--if anyone expects more then that--they are have very high standards that they probably can't even meet.
