I don't know if this a question or just a vent topic--but my son has been dx'd with multiple speech/language disorders. He's a talker--even though apparently he doesn't understand what he's saying or what someone is saying to him and it takes him awhile to get out the words. But it's becoming quite a problem at home. He has ODD and Who knows what else along with everything else and I think that stems from his frustrations of not being able to say or do things that he is trying to say or do. But lately he's been saying some pretty hurtful things towards me and the other night I just lost it--I'm not feeling well with a wicked sinus infection/chest cold and I just wasn't in the mood to hear it. He basically said he didn't want me at home anymore and to just get out or he will call the police and have me arrested.--Now where he's hearing this stuff from I don't know-but I retalated by saying--"fine you want me gone--then I will go--I will pack my things and leave tonight." Well of course that started a huge fight between me and my husband and thinks I should apologize for what I said--I don't think I should. I am trying to show my son that when he says the wrong things and they are hurtful then there are consequences--we have tried explaining verbally to him that he can't say certain things because the are hurtful to others--but he just doesn't get it!!!--So my feeling is literally show him what will happen based on what he says and maybe then he will "GET IT" what your thoughts on this? I honestly don't know how much more I can take before I do something that most likely I will regret.
We have had so many of his melt downs recently I can't even remember if I was able to get him to explain what why he said what he said in this post. With him could be the smallest thing to set him off, you never know what is going to do it. Is all I know is he takes it out on anyone around him. This is only at home, he does not act like this at school, from what I read it's most likely because he is taxed out by the time he gets home. He has used so much energy just to get through school that by the time he gets home he's had it. Then we have to try to get him to do more school work via homework and that most of the time ends up in several meltdowns before we get through it. This past week went pretty good, he didn't have too much Homework, he only had a few meltdown during the week. One major one while he was staying at his Nana's house because the computer wouldn't something he wanted and his Nana had no idea what he was trying to get it to do. Chris spent 2 hours getting him calmed down and having discussions with his parents about trying to avoid this extreme meltdowns. What did they have to say---Well if he wasnt so spoiled---it's a good thing I wasn't there, I would have flipped out on them and they wouldn't have liked what I said. Chris handled it well though, and basically told them that yes we buy him alot of things but he is not spoiled, he gets punished for things he does wrong, and his meltdowns are not from being spoiled--they are part of the condition he has. Well they still think a pill wil fix him. URRRRRRRRRRRRRR i'm sick of dealing with ignorant people.
