I have been doing the very same thing sine I was seven was yes it was small stuff just like you and money from family and friends as the years went on most of the family knew but just didn't know what to do or say. I was sent to a councillor but just said what they all wanted me to say. I'm now in my 50's and its still happening although the family started talking about it a few years which I couldn't take anything from them so I started to shoplift and that when the trouble started because I got caught and arrested which meant my husband of 15 year at the time had to be told it's now another 10years on and I am really trying to do something about it I have just recently joined a GA Group and although it's early days I'm feeling positive for the first time

I'm in pretty much the same situation, I am 54 yrs old, my family is crazy with me, as I got twice in 2016 with a sentence and spent Christmas 2016 in jail over that long weekend in a town and jail which I was very alone and hated it.... all went well the 28 Dec and got a huge fine my husband paid the fine and the lawyer the very same day, yet come Jan I still steal from retail etc but was once again nabbed in February at a liquor store and we both don't drink really. WHY WHY how do we get out of this rut we in. Next time I get caught I will be in jail for 10 years. And I fear that as I have little granddaughters my son is sooooo upset with me. Please contact me.

Have you looked up Terrance Shulmann-Something for Nothing . His book. He also does counselling but it is expensive. He has links to support groups.
Are you in counselling now?

This will be my first time calling in. I know that the Shulman center has done a lot to help recovering shoplifters. The founder was a habitual shoplifter himself ~ He offers a lot of free advice and free support groups that are active on a weekly basis! Every day of the week excepts maybe Sunday. Read this site. It has so much information. We can stop. We can recover. We can. We have to. We have got to want to. We have got to be putting forth every effort that we possibly can to get better.
