Retroactive jealousy

Hi, I'm new to this support group and would like to know if anyone has suffered from or might still be trying to rid themselves of retroactive jealousy? I would appreciate any tips or advice on this matter as I feel it's taking over my life... thanks in advance

Hello there.

I am also new to this support group. I am actually experiencing both retroactive jealousy and romantic jealousy where I experience jealousy with EVERY friend my gf makes. To be fair, all these girls have had some sort of attraction towards her. I want advice on how to deal with that jealousy or even better, getting rid of it once and for all.

I have and do experience retroactive jealousy. Never knew there was a name for it! It sucks. Stems from my insecurities and always being made to feel like I wasn’t good enough in all types of relationships in my life. With my current boyfriend, I am open about my insecurities and my obsessive thoughts. He hears me out and reassured me that it is me who he wants and me who he is with. It still gets to me though. I’ve kearned to tell him when I’m struggling with some thoughts, or if I feel like it’s just my jealousy and I don’t need to make an issue/discussion out of it, I ride the emotion and let it pass. It always does. With his support and my willingness to be vulnerable and express my thoughts/concerns/ feelings, my jealousy has decreased and I’m learning to think differently. It is a process and I’m no where near over my insecurities and jealousy, but I feel I’m making progress. I wish you the best of luck. I know your pain!
