baby2010 - I cried so hard when I read this, it seriously is exactly what I needed to hear to 100% finally be ok with this. I read it to my husband and I saw tears in his eyes as well. I'm hoping to use my cousin's egg's who is practically my twin and at first I was like "will I be able to get past that" but after reading your message, I 100% feel like this will be 100% my child. You are at the right place for support. I was diagnosed with POF when I was 27. We had a child naturally when I was 25. We used donor eggs last year and now have a an 8 month old. There were two embies left and we transferred them last Thursday. I am now 31. It was devastating to hear at such a young age that my eggs were no good. I found this site last year when we were deciding to do donor eggs and the ladies here were AWESOME! I feel like our baby is just as much mine as our older child....there are many ways to make a family. Sending best wishes on this difficult decision your way.

Thank you everyone for the wonderful advice - I found out a few weeks ago our 2nd IVF did not work and I tend to shut down for a bit after the devastating news. My RE suggested we do donor eggs and my eggs for the next cycle, after we rest for a few months. So we won't try again until July/August which seems like forever away but at the same time, I'm excited to not have to think about anything fertility for a few months :) We aren't sure if we will use someone we know or a random's egg for the cycle. My Dr. only uses eggs through an agency (unless you have someone you know) and OF COURSE that's the most expensive route. I feel like every option I'm ever given is the most expensive one. So instead of paying like $5,000 for the eggs, we'll have to pay over $12,000. I'm praying we are able to use someone we know because we just don't have the finances. I keep hearing stories of people who got pregnant naturally after being told they can't but sadly, that kind of miracle never happens in my life :( So I've given up on being hopeful for a miracle and I'm ready to go to the next step. Until then, my hubs and I will be enjoy life (or at least trying) :)

Coffeegirl. I know the financial aspect is huge. If you are open to anonymous donor eggs, you might want to explore doing a donor egg cycle in Europe - the cost there is closer to $6000 total (including the treatment, donor, and her meds).

Hello OP! I underwent IVF treatment. I used donor eggs. I'll try to answer your questions, basing on my own experience. Price for IVF depends on so many things. First of all where do you live? It would be easier to give advice, knowing where you located. If you're planning to go abroad, you should consider ticket expenses, housing, food, etc. Second of all is your friend going to use an agency or a clinic(without intermediaries)? Agencies take fees, which sometimes can be pretty high. Third of all - anonymous or non-anonymous donor? Fresh or frozen eggs? There are many questions which make it hard to say the exact price. Personally we used a clinic and we went abroad. We used anonymous donor, fresh eggs. Our clinic provided us with apartment, food supply and transportation. We spent approximately $8000 plus tickets. This is the price for 2 attempts of ivf. So if your friend needs only 1 attempt, it will cost even less.

IVF can be done if you have certain health conditions. So a clinic will ask you for your medical history. Speaking about pros and cons, the ultimate advantage of IVF is achieving a successful pregnancy and a healthy baby. The disadvantage is probably that the success of IVF is not guaranteed and women sometimes have to undergo more than one cycle of treatment before they are successful. Well I should say I see only pros in this treatment. I've got pregnant from the first try. Though we went abroad, we still saved some money. I want to say that going abroad to have IVF(with donor eggs in my case) doesn't mean you will have to spend more.

Hi girls! Thanks for sharing your stories. I'm so glad I found someone who experienced ivf with donor eggs. Last year I had failed try of IVF with my own eggs. Now doctors say I need to use donor eggs. This is my only chance to become a mother. My husband and I discussed this option. We've been thinking about it for a couple of months now. But both of us feel like we are not mentally ready for this step. Reading this and other forums I almost stopped torment myself with thoughts about baby' and mine kinship. Just wanted to add my piece of positive news (no pun intended), I got my first positive pregnancy test in my first DE cycle. It was my 5th IVF but the first 4 were with my own eggs. The only regret I have about going the donor route, is that I didn't do it sooner. Good luck to you!
