Typically no abnormalities appear during standard medical testing, and so irritable bowel syndrome is identified by the symptoms. Although irritable bowel syndrome can cause serious discomfort, the intestines are not harmed.

Pain in the lower stomach. Very much like bad period pain. I am having a gall bladder opp Monday 18th Feb.Just carnt get rid of this ache. anyone got simular pain/

Simple pain is only a symptom of IBS. IBS really means that you have bad digestion and the doctors can't find any particular reason why.

Gall bladder operation is often over prescribed by surgeons. Many times it's not needed. Even worse, if you take antibiotics after the operation, the antibiotics can destroy all the beneficial bacteria in your gut and lead to an overgrowth of yeasts called candida. Always think twice before allowing the butcher to do his thing.

If you're a surgeon, the way you fix problems is to do surgery. If your only tool is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

This operation should only be done on an emergency basis IMHO. I had mine removed, and it led me to 10 years of suffering with IBS-D.

iI HAVE HAD ALMOST CONSTANT PAIN IN MY STOMACH/INTESTINE AREA FOR 2 MONTHS. AFTER ALL OF THE TESTS CAME BACK NEGATIVE THEN DR. SAID IBS. HAVE YOU HAD ALL OF THE TESTS? I WON'T GET A OPERATION UNLESS YOU ARE VERY SURE IT IS G.B. IF IT ISN'T AND YOU HAVE THE OPERATION YOU WILL BE LOOKING AT MORE PROBLEMS. MAYBE GET ANOTHER APPT., ASK OTHERS WHAT THEY THINK OR ASK YOUR FAMILY DR. MORE QUESTIONS. HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER.

I agree so much with Keith. I did need my gallbladder removed - had several attacks from stones and thought I was having a heart attack at 22. My mom thought I was exaggerating until she was with me during the last attack. So, while my surgery was necessary...it also has led to 11+ years of suffering with IBS-D....only now, I'm starting to shift to the C version and am a little concerned about that. .... I just realized that your post was from Feb...how did your surgery go?
