Irritable bowel syndrome is a common intestinal disorder that is characterized by bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhea, cramping, and constipation. Typically no abnormalities appear during standard medical testing, and so irritable bowel syndrome is identified by the symptoms. Although irritable bowel syndrome can cause serious discomfort, the intestines are not harmed.

I was able to get referred to a gastroenterologist

today even though my PCP is out on vacation.....the covering doc gave me a name at a local hospital complex that I can go to as a referral.....so I need to give them call tomorrow afternoon and see when they can get me on their schedule....I have way too much diarrhea lately after eating.....it is because of IBSD I know and I have diverticulum issues too.....so hope they schedule me to do a colonoscopy after I see the doctor.....

I'm glad you are getting the help you need. I hope you get a smart GI doc and you start feeling better soon. My PCP won't send me to a GI doc unless my symptoms have changed.

well I called to schedule appoint and next available appt is not to Feb....so I said screw that....I asked the doctor for another referral to different organization and got referral today to a doctor when I called I was given the telephone number to the procedures office and they transferred me to the right area....then the lady who got info from me said the doctor they referred me to is a liver specialist and that I need to have them change it....so I got her to give me a gastro name to send to the doctor to get her to change it to the gastro needed not a liver doctor....

it partly is because my PCP is not in office on vacay right now and I am dealing with someone I have no idea of who she is....she is covering for my doctor.....anyway I am just hopeful they get the referral out to the doctor.....

Hope you feel better soon. I've had IBD for a while and white rice has helped me a lot. I'm still waiting for a GI consult, so would be interested in what your doc says.

0ne thing maybe a factor in my trots....I take synjardy which contains metformin and metformin causes diarrhea....so I sent me endocrinologist a question of the side effect possibly from synjardy....I know metformin er does not cause trots like metformin will....also asked if they make synjardy with the ER metformin....no reply yet...
