Typically no abnormalities appear during standard medical testing, and so irritable bowel syndrome is identified by the symptoms. Although irritable bowel syndrome can cause serious discomfort, the intestines are not harmed.

My GI doc has prescribed Hyomax after seeing that I have quick emptying of the small intestine on a small bowel series. I picked up the medicine and when I saw that it "may cause blurred vision" I became wary and started reading more about it. It seems that Hyomax is for people who have pain and cramping in the small bowel? I don't have pain and cramping there. Whenever I have pain it is lower in the bowel.
I see my doctor in two weeks and I can ask why I would be given this medicine, but for now has anyone else been prescribed this for any other reason besides pain? I don't know if I want to take a medicine that can cause so many side effects when I don't really need it. Is it bad for the small intestine to empty food quickly? Thank you.

My diag is IBS-c for which my doc prescribed the generic hyoscyamine to help calm the worst of the intestinal spasms.
I was told it was THE Rx for IBS-c.
My cramping changes a bit but seems like can encompas large and small intestines. Or maybe the pain "refers" to nearby areas when the cramps are bad enough...
