Typically no abnormalities appear during standard medical testing, and so irritable bowel syndrome is identified by the symptoms. Although irritable bowel syndrome can cause serious discomfort, the intestines are not harmed.

I am very small... 4 ft 9 in and weigh about 86 lbs. A nurse told me that for me, gas has nowhere else to go but up. I've noticed that after a bout of constipation and finally a bowel movement I get a fluttery (almost palpitation) feeling going straight up my esophagus and chest.

Does this make sense to you guys? I also have gastritis which complicates things a little. ( At least in my mind). I have noticed this is usually when my stomach is empty.

Just had a PH test and it seems I don't have a lot of reflux. It was basically a normal study. But my manometry test shows a weak LES, working, but not well.

I guess that makes sense...I have gotten weird feelings going up my esophagus when I have indigestion..so I would think the same could happen after bowel problems

omg yes , been there . I get gas in my shoulders really bad . I am small too 5 ft 1 113 lbs . sometimes that pill called benio I take before a big meal and it helps otherwise eat light

Do you folks use Benefiber or Miralax? I have two different gastro doctors and they each tell me something different. Confusing.

Rozia I get that painful gassy stuff in my chest, shoulders, tummy and back too. I have so many autoimmune problems that I never know which is kicking up.

I had a small bowel resection in 2008. They took about 6 inches of bowel out to clear a blockage from adhesions. Have never been the same since then. Now I have IBS and Gastritis. So I'm getting it from both ends and all around my body.

My diaphragm feels like it's being squeezed tight and it's hard to breath in. Part of that could be the MS HUG. Not pleasant.

Anyway, I'd love to hear more of your experience with this. Thanks

neither benefiber or mirlax works for me ... but I wouldn't use the benefiber it bloats you too much...

I have a relative that used miralax-it worked better than the metamucial but each person reacts diffferent to meds etc
