Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Support Group
Irritable bowel syndrome is a common intestinal disorder that is characterized by bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhea, cramping, and constipation. Typically no abnormalities appear during standard medical testing, and so irritable bowel syndrome is identified by the symptoms. Although irritable bowel syndrome can cause serious discomfort, the intestines are not harmed.

I have had IBS on and off the past 2 years and it's been one of the biggest challenges of my life (I have Fibromyalgia and IBS is just one of my many symptoms). However, I wanted to share the latest treatment that I've had good luck with. I had been searching the Internet like I've done over and over the past couple of years and found some info about aloe vera juice being helpful in calming the digestive system. It has anti-inflammatory properties and other health benefits, so I figured I would give it a try. I have been taking 4 ounces of pure aloe vera juice each day (mixed with a little juice and water) for the past month. I cannot believe I'm saying this, but it's been working SO well!! I have not had any abdominal pain in the past month and I'm back to eating all the food groups again, including insoluable fiber which I could not tolerate at all before. Maybe this is just the "placebo effect," but I really don't care why it's working, only that it does seem to be working!! You can get a gallon of aloe vera juice at Walmart for $8.

I'm so glad it's working for you. My mother in law gave me some and I haven't been consistant, I'm thinking that now I should try to be. Do you have IBS with diarrhea or constipation? I have done everything from changing my diet (I'm a small person and has lost way too much weight) and I'm on suppliments. Is this all your take?

would taking it in capsule form have the same effect? Im currently alternating between C/D at the moment, so I worried about side effects in terms of it being laxative.

I'm trying it, too. It does seem helpful, not perfect, but helpful so far.

Hey, another question. Please tell me, are you eating milk chocolate? I just found out that I am allergic to milk products and yest. But I love snickers and mnm's Just anything milk chocolate candy, I am hoping to be able to eat them again someday, my doc told me to stay away from them for 90 days and then we can test it, are you eating it ok. I really would love to start eating it. I've been taking the aloe vera juice consistantly now, hoping it all goes well. Thanks

vanillabear: In case you can't eat dairy again, there are a number of dairy-free sweets companies. :)

This person doesn't seem to respond to anyone. I have read some more about aloe vera and from what I am reading is that it causes diarrhea, so be careful with it. I was doing it consistantly for a while, it didn't seem to help, but I have diarrhea issues to begin with and then I read the info that it was more of a laxative, so I quit drinking it.

I tried the aloe vera gel mixed in my drinks, like decaf tea and things and it didn't help me. I still had bad diarrhea but was having such a bad spell then that nothing helped much, just immodiium. I tried it on and off and still got the diarrhea so just quit using it. My doctor has me using Benefiber every other day. I am supposed to use 3 teaspoons but I can only use one and feel bloated but it has help to add some bulk to the stool and I have not had as many problems with diarrhea. I also don't eat any dairy, soy or beans and that helps tremendously. Good luck.
