Interstitial Cystitis (IC) Support Group

Interstitial Cystitis (IC) is a urinary bladder disease of unknown cause characterised by pelvic and intense bladder pain, urinary frequency (as often as every 10 minutes), and pain with urination. It is not unusual for patients to experience nocturia and pain with sexual intercourse. IC is also known as painful bladder syndrome (PBS), particularly outside of the USA.

Has anyone else experienced these two things together?? I am having a really bad flair up of my IC (which is bad enough) but now i am having days of diarrhea!! I am so very miserable. I feel so tired and depressed....I just want to sit around and do nothing!! I also have Addison's Disease just for icing on the cake! I would appreciate any feedback. I don't know anyone personally that has IC of AD where I live and would love to have someone to talk to.

I'm so sorry your having so much to deal with and in so much pain you dont feel like doing anything.
If you continue to have diarrhea, talk to your doctor. It could be something serious that you dont want to ignore. I dont want to scare you, I dont want you to suffer, if it's IBS or other GI problems.
Are your stools black or have blood in them??
I thought I heard that it's common to have IBS with IC but really not sure.
I hope you feel better soon, please keep us posted.

thank you for your reply. i feel exacly like it is IBS. the medication i take for the IC could cause IBS and add that to a flair up and you get a double whammy!! it really is taking a toll on me right now so thanks for listening....it is good to know there is someone out there to listen and care. it is easy to get depressed when you feel so bad and tired. IC and AD are not so easy to live with sometime. i am having a treatment for the IC this week i hope that helps some and i am going to make an appointment to see my family dr. and ask if there is anything i can take for this IBS. thanks again.

I'm taking a narcotic for the IC pain that causes constipation and I swear anything that has to do with bowels has an effect on IC flares. It's really depressing!

I have found that IC and IBS goes hand in hand during a flair up!! I have come to think of this disease as Godzilla.....it is so bad. It truly has take all the starch out of me. I am going in tomorrow morning for a treatment for the bladder and I can't wait! I have become very, very emotional and depressed over the last two weeks. I cry for no reason and I feel so down. I imagine that this depression is a part of the flair up also....i am new to IC as you can tell. Thank you so much for responding. Good luck to you! The best thing I ever used for constipation was Miralax, you can get the store brand now and it is much cheaper but it does work.

If your having bladder treatments, and if your allergic to latex be very careful and ask if the catheter has latex in it. I have an allergy to latex and had no idea they were using a catheter made with latex and I thought I was dying. Make sure if too that they have lidocaine solution in the "ingredients" that they inject in your bladder.
I had to go through 12 treatments before I found out they never used lidocaine with my treatments, I was not very happy! If they dont use lidocaine you can really tell because it burns like heck!

that is one thing that i don't have...i don't have a latex allergy. i do have an update on the problem i have been having. i just home from the hospital...i had tuesday and wednesday morning feeling very, very weak when i tried to walk but i had a treatment to go to on wednesday morning. i had my sister-in-law drive me because i felt so funny. well before i could get the treatment my BP shot up to 202/126 and EMS was called because i was having shortness of breath and weird chest feelings......after lots of tests on my heart (which seems good) they say it was something to do with being so sick with my IC/IBS and addison's diasease. they have given me emergency steroids which is very high dosages. i am now back home after 3 days.

Oh yes! I have IC and I also have IBS and when I have an IC flare, it always comes with IBS, and vice versa. I've done some googling, and found that there are lots of people that have these together, along with other issues that seem to be related to the immune system. I've even found books on the immune system that mention this connection. But there isn't info on how to stop it yet! Frustrating!

thanks stpaulmom!! i knew they had to be conspiring together...because i always have them. i have something wrong with my immune system that is for sure....since i havew IC, IBS, and addison's disease. in the past i also had Steven's Johnson's Syndrome. it is good to know there are people out there you can talk to and understands what you are going through.

i was diagnosed with IBS many years ago long before IC and addison's disease. i had trouble with IBS even as a teenager. in answer to you question i guess you talk to your doctor and tell him you symptoms.
