Interstitial Cystitis (IC) is a urinary bladder disease of unknown cause characterised by pelvic and intense bladder pain, urinary frequency (as often as every 10 minutes), and pain with urination. It is not unusual for patients to experience nocturia and pain with sexual intercourse. IC is also known as painful bladder syndrome (PBS), particularly outside of the USA.

HAS ANYONE TAKEN THE FENTYNAL PATCH FOR PELVICE PAIN? IF SO DOES IT WORK AND IS THERE MAJOR SIDE EFFECTS? i WENT TO SEE PAIN MGMT DOCTOR AND SHE HAS GIVEN IT TO ME. HAVEN"T TRIED IT YET

My mother is on the patch for bladder issues, a surgery she had that used a mesh has grown into her abdominal walls. She is helped very much by it. But follow the instructions for use very carefully, and have someone monitor you as it is potent and might you woozy and sleepy. Mother uses a sharpie to mark the date and time on the patch itself to remind her when she put it on. The sedating effects wore off for her which is good and she feels it is beneficial and will hold her until the surgery to repair the problem. Best of luck! Coleen

If you use it, the idea of writing the time and date is a great idea. My husband tried the patch for his pain but started itching all over and then began having auditory hallucinations--so he could not use them. Have someone around you when you use them to make sure you don't have a bad reaction. The pain relief will be worth it and it won't wear off quickly--maybe last three days or so.

I've been using the Fentenyl patch for about 6 months now. I get relief but there is still break through pain. I'm on 75 mgs. right now. I'm afraid to go any higher.

I've had one bad experience with this. I ran out of patches at the worst time. It was a holiday weekend and I couldn't pick up a 'script for it. Since it's a narcotic, you can't have it called in, you have to have a written prescription in hand at the pharmacy. I had horrid withdrawal symptons. The worst ever. I was sure my children were dead and nobody wanted to tell me. I couldn't stop crying. Terrible shaking. Unbelieveable hallusinations. Don't ever go a day without a patch on once you start the program. Some days I'm upset that I got into something like this.

Good luck to you. I've wondered what a pain specialist would prescribe and now I know.

Please be careful, my husband was on the patch for 4 years!!! And it was THE MOST SCARY AND HORRIBLE withdrawal when he switched meds. @ his highest he was on 75 mcg. Please be careful with this stuff. Its 80x more powerful than Morphine. Serious stuff and you risk death if you ever try to go cold turkey. Please weigh your other options..... good luck.
