Interstitial Cystitis (IC) is a urinary bladder disease of unknown cause characterised by pelvic and intense bladder pain, urinary frequency (as often as every 10 minutes), and pain with urination. It is not unusual for patients to experience nocturia and pain with sexual intercourse. IC is also known as painful bladder syndrome (PBS), particularly outside of the USA.

Do I always have to go to a urologist for IC? Honestly I have so much trouble but it is so expensive to keep going from doctor to doctor and it\'s been a while since I\'ve gone back to the urologist, because of our insurance, we have to pay for he visit because we have a high deductible. I just need to get to a doctor to try something, it really hasn\'t gotten any better,
I keep having so many infections and inflamations, they just want to keep giving me antibotics and I have so many allergies, any advice?

My first question is, were you diagnosed with IC? If so, I would ask your family MD to do some research on it and ask them to treat you. My family MD took over writing my scripts and what not and I go to her for flare-ups because my urologist is 2 and 1/2 hours away, but you will still need your urologist if your IC worstens and you need a bladder dialation. But I would ask your family MD to prescribe a therapeutic level of antibiotics and try an antihistamine, which sounds like it might help due to your allergies!

I was diagnosed by a urologist after being refered by a number of Doctors because of UTI's
that never seemed go away, probably about 3 to 4 years ago, my gyno Doctor refered me and I had the test with the light in the bladder, sorry I don't know what it was called, he was trying to help with mostly trying to get the infection to go away, but I still have it always, sometimes it's just inflamation. Every doctor I go to won't treat me for it, only refer me back to the Urologist, which I wouldn't mind but even with insurance, the office visit is awful until that stupid deductible is met and I'm gonna try to see if I can get a regular doctor to treat me instead of all this back and forth. Luckily they didn't find anything else wrong with the blladder but I absolutey hate having something they are only doing trail and error, I'm sure you know what I mean, thanks for the advice
