I’ve been with my husband for 8 years. Married now for a about a year a half and it is still a struggle. I wandered a little bit, pushing God away for a while and came back more dedicated just over 2 years ago. My husband seems as though he has come leaps and bounds, however he has not come to faith yet. It’s a daily struggle in my own heart. I worry about him, but am trying to remind myself that God is good, and his timing is always perfect. It’s easy to say this...not always so easy to live by day by day. Have you had successes with your hubby? Even small ones? Celebrate those and let them be your hope. God works in big ways, however sometimes his work comes little by little.
I, too, am an atheist. My fiancee believes in Jesus but does not attend church, as she sees a lot of hypocrisy and fake people there, among other reasons.
Anyway, I agree that you should not try to convert someone who is not willing, but to understand them. Build a bridge and learn to love them entirely, for all that they are, even if you believe something they do not. That said, I do not know whether your husband is trying to convert or not. As for my fiancee and me, we do not try to convert/deconvert each other. That would create a very bad dynamic in the relationship and we would have to break up. Neither she nor I would tolerate that kind of behavior. Acceptance is key.
I hope this helps. May the wind be at your backs!
