When I tapered off using it, I had insomnia almost every night, but this did not last very long. It was worthwhile using it during menopause. My insomnia was much worse during this time period because of the hormonal changes.
Ambien will work for me (1/4 or 1/2 a pill) for a few days and then I have insomnia AND am dopey. Then I notice I have to take a full pill (that's when I stop taking it for a few weeks).
Please know this stuff is NOT to be taken every night (or else you'll have an entirely different problem in 3 months). If you have to take it, take the lowest dose possible.
If you're fortunate enough to have a CBT provider, I'd discuss this with them. I wouldn't think you'd "need" the Ambien (intermittently) for more than a few weeks.
