Then there is the whole category of what's known as psychophysiologic insomnia, which the Institute of Medicine estimates as many as 30 million Americans (roughly 10% of the population) deals with. This very common form of sleeplessness is typically caused by some combination of bad sleep habits and excessive worry about sleep.
It is the "excessive worry" part that most definitely is in your head, and for many of us is the raw fuel that enables and perpetuates insomnia.
Not saying you have this. I don't know. Just making a general comment about insomnia that a lot of people have to deal with.
I know I did, and getting to the bottom of the negative thoughts was a big part of what helped me sleep better. Not all of it, but a big part.
