How well you do depends on choices you make as well as circumstances beyond your control. Make good choices and adapt to those things you can't change. Experience will give you the confidence that you can adapt.
I sleep better since I did CBT for insomnia. I did sleep restriction. It does teach you that you can still function with low sleep. This reduces the anxiety about not sleeping. I also use low dose melatonin. I only take 1mg.
I can relate to your story. I will be praying for you to succeed.
I think I don't fear not sleeping. I think I'm just tired of having to function on no sleep. I'm not depressed as in suicidal but I'm not ever happy. I present myself as nice and a good mood to others but the real me right now is usually grumpy, irritable, etc. I can function on little to no sleep but I'm just so tired of feeling like crap all the time(tired, grumpy, irritable, sorta depressed, etc). I think that's why I'm anxious to sleep well. I've also almost gotten in a few accidents on the way to work. I don't know how other insomniac's can drive early and not get in accidents. My only guess is most don't admit like it I do.
