Insomnia is a symptom, rather than a disease, and is characterized by inadequate quantity or quality of sleep. People with insomnia complain of difficulty falling or staying asleep, which results in significant impairment of daytime functioning. Insomnia is categorized as transient (shorter than one week), short-term (one to three weeks) or chronic (longer than three...
Well I had success last night! Granted I only got to sleep from like 2:45 to 9, when I tried going to bed last night, the next thing you know if my 9 a.m. alarm going off. I definitely could use more sleep but I'm WAY less tired than yesterday.
I used some chart thing from a book I have called no more sleepless nights to identify what I think was causing my poor sleeping(Let me know if your email if you want and I can send you the charts that I made.) I didn't exactly follow their instructions and purposely do one of the factors for a week that I suspected was causing my poor sleep but I have it worked so I know it's one of the five factors I selected and I'm pretty sure only 2 of them are playing a big part in it.
If you're like me and aren't sleeping till 4:30 or 5, I repeat do NOT lye in bed. It was hard to think of stuff but I thought of stuff to do until 1:30 A.M. that didn't involve electronics. I sorted through some papers, cleaned my room, I even lyed down(no desire to sleep) and just kind of reflected on some things. Sorta just let me mind free flow.
Once it hit 1:30 I followed a sleep routine which took about an hour and 10 mins. First I wrote a list to do tomorrow, next I made some hot tea, drank and slowly drank it(super hot). Then I went downstairs and did some basic stretches(feeling super relaxed from the hot tea), then I went up stairs, took a luke warm bath( I think hot baths in the summer are bad but also think too cold of a bath will just wake you up more and last night was my first night trying this), then I put on some achne stuff, washed my face, put moisturizing lotion on it, brushed my teeth and then head down stairs. From there the plan was to read and then do 5 or 10 minutes of deep abdominal breathing but I feel to tired to read so I just did a couple minutes of abdominal breathing and before you knew it, it was morning.
Hopefully since I got up early at 9 and won't be taking naps, I'll be able to be able to sleep at 2:30 or slightly before it. My advice to you like I mentioned earlier is to do what I did: plan on fall asleep at 3 a.m tonight and keep yourself busy untill 1:30ish and then do some sort of sleep ritutal like I did. Oh and let me know your email if you want charts I made (1 to guess the factors you suspect are messing with your sleep, and the other to simply track your sleep. If you compare them side by side looking at what you did on a poor night, you probably will catch your bad sleep culprit!)
