That said, you might also consider the possibility that any medication for sleep is really treating only the symptom and not the true root of the problem. With insomnia sleep is invariably only the symptom, something else is going on causing the problem.
You may have at least some overlap -- most insomniacs do -- with at least some primary component that is conditioned, meaning sleeplessness not caused by your medical conditions. These nonmedical root causes for insomnia typically stem from some combination of bad sleep habits and excessive worry about the idea of sleep.
You most definitely are expressing the excessive worry part, which is understandable and something we in this group can all relate to. On the other hand, most of us can attest that it is exactly this worry and stress about sleep that to some extent fuels our insomnia.
The best way I know how to permanently treat these nonmedical components of insomnia is through CBT sleep training designed specifically for adults. These are the methods that I first used a decade ago and still use today, and I can tell you they work for me and statistically for most people.
