"Valium is an Antidepressant"
I'm sure this was a typo...it is used along with antidepressants for it's anti anxiety effects, but it depresses the central nervous system.
Because of it's long half life, it often contributes to depression.
Xanax is very short lived and is used more often in combination with antidepressants.
I'm not into correcting folks per se, but valium can be a days long ordeal of emotional darkness for those with major clinical depression....I didnt leave the spare bedroom for weeks.
I take it on and off and have experienced some serious side effects even in very small doeses. I continue to take it for bipolar as it is an anti-psychotic but I don't think the risk of taking it is appropriate for insomnia.
