It would not be in the least bit surprising if you are experiencing quite a bit of sleep state misperception. Many if not most of us with insomnia do, and frankly it feeds the problem.
If you are dreaming then there's a good chance you are benefiting from all the deeper slow wave sleep phases that normally precede REM sleep. Sleep studies show that our mind-body systems usually prioritize NREM over REM.

I'm curious what he'll have to say as well. The true root of my insomnia was the summer heat but then i adjusted and did good for a short period and then inexplicably it came back for no known reasons.
I think the dreaming I'm talking about is happening around 5 or 6 am though. I suspect I am lightly sleeping and then drip off to a deeper sleep around 4 or 5.
